Default What point is rock bottom?

For me, it was almost when I had to slink into JC Penney and buy size
40 jeans. The actual rock bottom was when those got tight and I
actually considered buying 42's.

That very day I started WW Core and by the end of the week had lost 3
pounds. I never looked back after that.

Here's the reason I bring this up.
I was at WalMart a couple weeks ago (here we go...it always seems to
start with that) and I saw something that made me literally gasp Oh My
God out loud. When I did that, the other people in line at the
cashier turned to see what I was gasping at, then looked back at me
and started laughing.

I didn't do this to be mean, it was a reflex because it shocked me so
much, and I wasn't laughing with them.

I saw a woman with the biggest butt I've ever seen in my life.
From the side, her butt came out and made a flat shelf about a foot
wide. From the front and back she is so huge she literally fills the
entire isle. She can't be passed from either direction.

I've seen her again since then, and it still shocks me.
She only looks to be about 25 years old. She has 3 young kids with
her, and her husband is probably "only" about 20 pounds overweight.

So I have to wonder, at what point does a person say enough is enough?
When you have to do crazy gymnastics to stuff yourself into the car,
or can't use a public restroom, etc. Why is that not rock bottom for
this woman?

There's a difference between being overweight and feeling bad,
uncomfortable etc. and actually being disabled by your size...and all
for food.

I see way too many people who walk into the store, then plant
themselves in a scooter, just because they're available.

Electric enablers.

Mine came in '96 when I quit smoking and gained ~40 pounds. I needed
to buy a new suit and absolutely refused to buy a size 16. Like you I
joined WW and started on my journey to lose weight and become
healthy.

Today I weigh 2 pounds above my goal weight, have excellent health and
have become an avid cyclist at age 64

Pish...2 pounds. You're at your goal. :-)

I realize now that my "goal" has a plus or minus 3 pound swing, and
I'm okay with that.

I'm not concerned about the 2 pounds either. I do a lot of biking in
the warm weather months and I often see the weight hover above 140 but
the BF% goes down I'll take that any day!

the warm weather months


Yeah, still do my 4 miles on the treadmil in the morning, but when
it's warm I get another 3 miles in the afternoon pushing the stroller.

I think making it through the long winter without gaining a thousand
pounds is something in itself.

You are so right about the winter-I live in the arctic where it's
winter like 9 months a year- my first winter up here I gained 35 lbs.
Damn the snow eh?
My Rock Bottom was a few months ago- weighing more than I ever have
before-running out of scale I think did it. I was up at 276 or so and
my scale only went to 280- what would I do if I gained more?

Thankfully winter doesn't last that long in Ohio I do need to watch
my weight during the winter months as it's so easy to gain when I'm
not out there riding the bike in cold weather. Every year I say I'm
going to go to the gym, put the bike on the trainer, use the treadmill
more often, etc.....but it often doesn't happen and I end up with a
few extra pounds. Maybe this year will be different for me

I brought back the Good Old Fashioned Family Sunday Dinner.
Pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy...stuff like that.
I think it may be responsible for a few pounds.

May have to switch it to every other week. ;-)

I think many of us change our diets with the seasons. In the summer I'm
satisfied with salads topped with some type of protein - chicken, salmon,
tuna, etc. In the winter the salads don't seem to satisfy me as I want
something warm.

Well, I made it into those 42's and was into a 44 at one time.

Bottom line for me was becoming newly single, wanting to get healthy &
wanting get back into the dating scene.
