what's wrong with prozac?
It saved my life. Probably several other people's too, come to think of
it.

Om sez...
"Prozac is groovy. More of a mood leveler than anything else! It killed
the "emotional eating" cycles."

Lass sez...
I dont feel anything at all from the prozac. I mean, it doesnt get me
high or anything. it just makes depression noticably less.
Cant say it affects my appetite one way or the other.

People who have never been clinically depressed....have no idea how
awful it is. It's like falling into a black hole with no means of
escape. Debilitating. It steals your life.

"Mood leveling"..that's a good description.

Nothing wrong with Prozac.

Bulimic-type episodes like you describe might be a symptom of low
serotonin levels in your brain (with the alcohol and cannabis as added
medication no doubt).

Excercise, SSRIs, Saint John's wort, all might be better ways of
raising 5HT levels than carb binges. Just unofficial (and likely
obvious) shrink advice for yah.

This may or may not apply to you. My personal
feeling is that antidepressants are just a bandaid
for underlying problems - a way to deal with
life's difficulties without really fixing what's
wrong. In other words, a crutch, and an
over-prescribed one at that. I believe it's best
to avoid any drugs, even aspirin, if at all
possible. Granted, there are some cases where
they are necessary, but not nearly as much as
doctors, pharmaceutical companies, etc. would like
us to believe.

Pot is another story. Why would anyone want to
take a mind-altering substance? Are people so
unhappy that they have to take something to feel good?

Doug---Sure. It was a buffet. There was plenty of LC stuff there.
Pork, chicken, various veggies.

But it was the wonton soup and fried rice I wanted. Capice?

Yes, Im volatile in pretty much every aspect of my life. "Excess and
Outrage" is my credo---and Id have it tattooed on my ass if I didnt have
enough tats, already.

Meditation, Prozac and de-stressing by moving to the mountains is why Im
still sucking wind, I expect.

I dont deal well with Rules. The fact Ive only had one major pig-out
since 5-16 and gave up wine and weed is pretty miraculous, all things
considered.

Some folks were born to party hearty, live hard and die young, man.
I never expected to make it to 55.

By "pigging" I dont mean I filled my plate 14 times, LOL---I mean, on
the one plate I did fill, there was fried rice, crab Rangoon, an egg
roll...oh, and let's not forget the wonton soup.
It wasnt the amount---it was the CARBS.
Just checking - You're aware that many/most Chinese places have all
sorts of low carb choices available, right?
That would have been bad, but not that bad. The thing was, AFTER this
debauchery, I came home and drank a quart of wine (havent had wine for,
oh, dunno, a month or more?) smoked some doobie, (also after a month or
more of none) got the munchies and did in several handfuls of chocolate
chips, a bowl of cereal, two Tbs. of peanut butter, four slices of
sandwich ham smeared with creamcheese......

Are you subject to extreme reaction in parts of your life in addition to
posting on-line, eating and drinking? Maybe some calming influence like
meditation will help you more than any discussion of food.

You did note the part that says there are some
cases where it is necessary? For the most part,
antidepressants are just like antibiotics and a
lot of other drugs, overprescribed and
unnecessary. That cannot be disputed.

That's good advice. :-)
Emotional eating is still a problem I have to deal with from time to
time. I'll tend to splurge occasionally if I'm having a bad night at
work and get ****ed off or frustrated. :-P
