Howdy;

Frankly, how anyone would think that Charbucks - err Starbucks - is quality
coffee has never tasted GOOD coffee.

But - to answer your question - no.

Too much sugar.

Regards

Dan

after the iinduction phase an occasional one--one or two a month -- won't
kill you. Maybe throw you out of ketosis, but won't kill you. You may
want to experiment with flavored sugar free syrups in regular joe to
approximate theflavor. I used to dring a Breve with heavy whipping cream
and a shot of sugar free vanilla--ummm....!

I very much agree. All of my in-laws are Starbucks fans. The often refer
to themselves as "coffee snobs", but I beg to differ.

They're trendy, perhaps, but "coffee snobs" no.

I'm always sort of amused by the anti-Starbucks backlash. I can see
how people may not like their ultra-dark roast, but before they came
along most people were still drinking Yuban and Folgers and had never
so much as tasted an arabica bean. And almost every other specialty
coffee sompany roasts their beans to close to the same levels of
darkness as Starbucks these days.

So when I read statements like the above, I can't help but wonder what
the writer considers *good* coffee. Starbucks doesn't even have to
mean "charbucks" anymore, either -- they offer lighter roasts as well.

Now, if'n you want to rag on their appalling business practices, the
way they target neighborhoods with successful mom 'n pop coffee stores
and drive 'em out of business ... I'm on board with that. But dissing
the quality of their coffee just reeks of knee-jerk, "let's hate 'em
because they're successful" backlash.

What I consider GREAT coffee is what I prepare at home. I roast my
beans to a full city roast SOMETIMES vienna. The beans are then given
a rest of 24-48 hours before being ground JUST before brewing.

Can Charbucks tell you when their beens were roasted? NO way! IF they
could it would likley be weeks before. Can starbucks tell you when the
beans for your cup were ground? Maybe yesterday, MAYBE a few minutes
ago!

Does the "barista" a starbucks have ANY idea how or why to adjust the
grind for PROPER extraction of an espresso? I'd venture to guess that
99% of the time NO.

You see I CARE about what I am drinking, I have a deep passion for the
cup I drink and serve to my guests. The EMPLOYEES at starbucks are
USUALLY in it for a pay check and sadly have nobody qualified to
teachthem should the desire to learn what espresso really is.

I go into a tirade when a convenience store advertises CAPPUCCINO,
FIVE CENTS PER OUNCE!!. If you ventured in and asked for an espresso
they'd tell you they didn't have THAT. HOW in the name of G d can you
make a cappuccino without FIRST starting with an espresso?

I WILL give starbucks credit for awakening the American concionce to
the possibility of something beoyond months old sawdust from a can
that's been on you grocers shelf for weeks. I will give them credit
for an amazing marketing plan and amazing growth, but will never give
them credit for a decent cup of coffee, it's over roasted stail and
ill prepared.

( Getting down from my soap box )
