Is pasta fattening ?
Hi,
Is pasta fattening ? The only major change in my food intake these last few years is discovery of things like Tesco Tuna and pasta bake, or chicken and broccoli pasta bake. I never considered pasta before, also these last few years I am putting on weight a bit, now is the pasta thing the cause or just age, I am coming up to 51. I do enjoy it and also the convenienve of the tubbed meals as mentioned. Steve |

Steve, read the labels. Does the UK not have nutritional and calorie
break outs on the label (i.e. calories from carbs, fats, etc.). Also find out what they think a serving is, vs. what YOU think a serving is. The package will often say, serves 4 or 6 or whatever, or says a serving is so many grams, and the serving size is impossibly tiny by most people's standards. M |

Eating too much food is fattening - not the pasta itself

Next whole grain pasta is better, as is whole grain bread compared to white bread. I miss making my own pasta. The pasta bakes never came to mind, dammit! Best, Andy Pasta makes fine breakfast food if you're not on a diet, from experience. -- All Posts Blocked From: @yahoo|@gmail|@hotmail|@webtv|@aol |

Pasta itself isn't especially fattening, but if you measure out the dry pasta amount recommended as a serving I'd like to bet it will be less than you use. However the ready made dishes you mention are likely to be high in fat and calories. The word 'bake' usually indicates some kind of cheese based topping to go brown which will up the count. I'd recommend trying to make your own pasta dishes instead. Take a look at the jars of ready made sauces - some are high in calories but some aren't, the Cranks brand sold at Tesco is fairly low. A tin of tuna, a jar of sauce, some frozen veg and some dried pasta will make 2-3 servings, isn't a great deal more work than pre-made, and will be a lot healthier. Or if you must have ready made, then look at the varieties marked as low calorie, Sainsburys Healthy Eating or Weight Watchers. Beware though of products labelled low fat which are still high in calories. -- Those who are mentally and emotionally healthy are those who have learned when to say yes, when to say no and when to say whoopee. Pretty much everything is fattening.. it's all about calorie in VS calorie
out... however you decide to control that doesn't really matter. Will~ "Steve" wrote in message .uk... Hi, Is pasta fattening ?
