Anyone else have this happen when the weather got colder where you live? Cat When the temp drops I'm tempted to start baking something to "warm up the house" heh heh. I start mixing up applesauce cakes, brownies, and biscuits, baking casseroles, and making batches of soups and stews. I guess I go into pre-hibernation mode--gotta fill up and put on some fat to get me through the winter. I'm trying to be better about it this year. I grabbed a bag of lentils and a butternut squash to make stew. I have some nice, lean venison for another stew, and chili fixin's were on sale, so there's another warm-me-up meal. I'll try to stay away from the casseroles, which tend to be too creamy, cheesey, and fatty for my WOE. Hope the family doesn't mind... Amy (trying to resist the urge to bake a pumpkin pie) Instead of the pie, buy a sugar pumpkin. They're smaller than jack 'o latern pumpkins, and round. First, pierce some holes in it and microwave for about 10 minutes. Then, it will be tender enough to cut in half. Bake halves at 350 degrees for about an hour, or until soft. Add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg and a little olive oil if you like. It should be sweet and tender. Martha |

I was looking for squash recipes that could be made sweet as a dessert for the fall. It's 36 degrees (F) at 7:30 this morning - debating whether or not to wear a sweatshirt for my run. Jennifer |

It's been way too hot over the last couple of weeks. I really hate the heat. It makes me a slug and I tend to gain weight, because I don't want to move. I like it when it's colder. Like walks in the rain, I love them. Martha |

Martha It doesn't get very hot here in the summer as a rule, except for maybe a week or two of 90's. I tend to be very active in the summer and decrease activity as fall and winter arrive. My goal this year is to not let that happen. Just got some long sleeved t-shirts for running since even with my arm warmers, it's time to do more layering. Hopefully the long johns will be on the shelves this week. Jennifer |

It is by far the best cardio workout you can get. You workout your entire body and it's quite fun. Martha |

The problem is that I like to do daily cardio workouts and it's hard to get in some XC skiing before work in the morning I plan to continue running outdoors until the snow and ice cover the roads. DH and I will be snowshoeing in the evenings since I figured out how to get to Curves in the morning before work. Jennifer |

However, on moonlit nights my buddies and I get together for Full Moon Snowshoeing. It's such a blast - so bright and clear and gorgeous! A nice cuppa tea when we're done and I sleep like a baby. I can't wait. -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |

Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 That sounds awesome! I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to snow this year. My friends who are very active are all excited about taking me downhill skiing (something I used to do for many years) and XC skiing. I've already been given hand me down ski pants and DH bought me a new LL Bean Anorak. He's looking forward to snowshoeing together. I keep joking that if I get good enough on XC skis I can take the dog skijoring. The biggest winter "sports" up here are ice fishing and snowmobiling. I like the idea of a moonlight snowshoe blast. Let it snow! Jennifer |

They say the only thing that makes the ice fishing and snowmobiling any fun is the drankin' ;-) Since I couldn't find boots to go with the yardsale XC skis I bought this summer, I'm off to the Bean's outlet this week. Hope someone returned a pair in my size g -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |
