Bored with the salad and meat making me "sick"
Hi,
Im on week two by now and im SO bored with the salad vegetables. I almost eat none of it by now. I weighed my 100 g. for lunch and didnt even eat half. Is it possible to eat more of "the other vegetables" insted of the "salad vegetables"? In what amount if possible? Im still in the induktion fase and most of the vegetables is like are in the "other vegetables" column. Also.. i have been having a couple of days with meat "hate". I simply couldnt bring myself to eating it. It tasted way to fat even thoug it was minced meat with very little fat in it. So i just ate my vegetables. Is that ok if i was full and didnt have hunger issues later on? Or is there some relation between the meat and greens that makes it important for me to eat both? Btw.. 8 pounds in the first week )))) Zap. |

I am sure that there are some who have excellent recipes for them, and that gives you a small goal to look forward to. I use various dips, dairy, to enhance the flavor and texture of veggies. It asdds fat in a pleasant sort of way. At some point, you can even look forward to low carb ice cream. But that is some time off, I have not much willpower, and when I bought a half gallon of Breyers low carb ice cream, I gobbled it up in two days and knocked my weight loss back for a whole week. But, now I am back and "It Feels Good" to have gotten those 4 or 5 pounds of indulgence off of my waist. Also, I would go and look at some of the recipe books for low carb people. The one by Dr. Atkins and his wife is really excellent. Walmart price was $9.97. The other day, I had Chicken Cordon Bleu - chicken breast pounded thin and folded with ham and swiss cheese, breaded in low carb breading and sauteed in butter/olive oil. Accompanied with a Romaine lettuce and cucumber salad with fresh avocado and dill seasoning with Parmesian cheese and a salad dressing. Tonight I will have the same chicken, but a medley of asparagus, broccolli, and chopped green beans with green onions sauteed in olive oil and butter and topped with a Ranch Flavored Dip. I am eating better than when I just shoveled large amounts of food in my tummy till it was STUFFED. You can eat really great stuff...... From the same ATKINS (Mrs. and Dr.) book: Greek Salad Orange Daikon Salad Red Cabbage Salad with Fets and Dill Walnut Coleslaw Fennel Salad with Parmesan Celery Root Salad Endove Salad with Walnuts and Roquefort Mixed Green Salad with Warm BACON Dressing Shrimp Salad with Hearts of Palm Crunchy Spinach Salad Chicken Cordon Bleu Cprmosj Jems wotj A[rocpt Wome Sauce Chicken with Lemon and Capers "Breaded" Chicken Cutlets Curry Chicken Salad with Cucumbers Chicken Salad with Fennel and Pesto Chicken Coconut Satay with Cilantro Chicken with Cucumbers Chicken Paprika Chicken with Indian Spipces Creamed Chicken with Mushrooms Tomatillo Chicken Breast of Duck with Red Wine Sauce.... And a hundred moe With really great lists of what goods you get to add as you progress throught the four stages. You have a great life to look forward to, and you can be thin enough to bounce around and enjoy it. Jim -- ................................ Keepsake gift for young girls. If you have an aversion to fats, your low carb diet will fail.

At that time you can eat different kinds of foods. Try kung pao chicken, for example. It takes some creativity, though it's not a burden, it can be fun. |

You want to keep eating the vegetables. Some will say "stick just by
the book", but in real life, YMMV. Yes, I ate a variety of greens, not just salad greens, and I still lost weight. You could try sprouts or cooked veggies (that the book allows). You don't need to just eat meat - you can eat fish and eggs too, and once you're off Induction, some vegetarian products (watch the carbs). For example, Morningstar Farms veggie sausage has only one carb per serving. You should eat a variety of things to keep from getting bored. Starting Atkins doesn't mean you have to eat beef every day of the week. I eat mostly chicken and fish. |

Hi All,
I dont have an aversion to fat per say. I just dont like too much fat and since we have been eating meats for a whole week in big amounts to keep full i think i just got "enough" kind of like i got enough of the salad. Perhaps i should try thinking about meats in small bites in some kind of gravy or sauce with veggies in it. Frankly there isnt much on the salad list that i truely like. I like the lettuce of course but other than that there is only cucumber, mushrooms, pepper, chives and parsley which makes for a really boring salad. I SO miss tomatoes in my salad. I know its allowed but since i treasure the other vegetabels for my dinner and really dont feel satisfied unless i eat the 200 g. thats allowed its not an option to just "take away" from that. Hence my question. Could i use one tomato and eat 100 g. of salad vegetables and eat NO MORE salad vegetables that day? Somehow it should be possible but i guess its a matter of calculation? So if i decide to do the math my self can anyone here tell my how many carbs is in 340 g of the salad vegetables? How many in the 90-110 g of cheese? How many in 200 g. of other vegetables? Some calculation must have gone into this since "you can eat all this and stay under 20 g. of carbs a day" but i dont know where to find the figures. I realise there is a difference in the amount of carbs in for instance lettuce and cucumber but some overall calculation must have been made. Oh well.. perhaps i should just suck it up for the final week. And i do think you are right about me not have such a big appetite as i used to and not being able to tell that thats how being pleaseantly full actually fells. Also - compared to the low fat diets which i have been on and off for years - no success - have teached me that most of what i eat on this diet is BAD for me. So thats kind of.. oh who am i kidding - thats freaking weird and i feel like a total sinner eating my bacon in the morning and eating my egg salad with fullfat mayo for lunch. Thanks you guys. Zap |

You can set up a free account at fitday.com to log everything you eat, and it will calculate the carbs for you (as well as protein, calories, fat, etc) Also - compared to the low fat diets which i have been on and off for years - no success - have teached me that most of what i eat on this diet is BAD for me. Zap What helped me to get over feeling guilty for eating "fattening" foods was the thought that this way of eating is closer to what people ate before food was so processed. Our ancient ancestors hunted and gathered, and they sure as hell ate the fatty parts of the meat. I no longer think of fat as "bad," nor do I think of carbs as "bad" actually. You can lose weight on low-carb, you can lose weight on low-fat. What's "bad" is a lot of carbs and a lot of fat _together_. You have discovered yourself that fat in the absence of excess carbs doesn't induce overeating. In fact, it's the opposite, you're actually starting to feel full before you've eaten too much, which is the whole point. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws. |

Zap Don't worry too much about the amount of carbs in each single salad vegetable. I've seen people fret about eating half a carrot at lunch time and putting their carb count 2 grams over, but never seem to worry about eating a "nutritional bar" that claims some low "net carb" number. Eat your 2 cups of veggies every day and don't worry. They are good for you. Worry more about falling into the trap of eating refined products that make wild claims instead of healthy natural food. After the 2 weeks, your choices will increase even more and will not be as mundane. Tom 210/180/180 |
