Default what's wrong with me?

Lately I've had total apathy towards diet and exercise. My eating
calorie-wise is fine, but nutrient-wise is not great. I'm actually losing
weight, but I suspect it's muscle from neglecting the gym. I've been skiing
every weekend, so I'm not totally without exercise, but what I really wanted
this year was to really "fine-tune" my body - drop about 10 more lbs of fat,
gain a few lbs of muscle... But I have zero motivation to go to the gym.

My membership runs out in a couple months, I'm thinking about not renewing
it. I have my mountain bike for the spring/summer/fall, and skiing for the
winter. What else do I need? I'm just tired of paying $50/mo for something
I hardly use. I wish that I could get with the program! I'm 5'3" and weigh
126. I think at this point, I'd be happy to just be 20% bf and feel healthy
and vital...

Oh Det, I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling tons of motivation
right now. I wish that I could help you. Like you, I prefer to
exercise outside. I totally understand not wanting to pay for the gym
if you don't feel that you are/will use it. Could you put money toward
some equipment to use at home? I mean, if you have somewhere to put it?
Otherwise, do you have a place that you could use workout videos/DVDs?
Do you enjoy walking?

I know for me the winter is the toughest time, both because I don't like
riding my bike at night and because the weather kinda sucks.

this is a great suggestion. sure you could save up $1500 or so for a good
state of the art name brand set up. but.. me, i spent $200 on a free weight
set. it came with 140lbs of weight came with pull down attachment. leg
attachment bench turns into incline press also and came with an attachment
for doint arm curls and such. it suits my purpose well. i only use it 2
days a week 3 at the very most depending on how my days fall. keep
motivated just let us know and we will kick ya in the budd to get ya
going again.. keep movin i know you can do it!!!!!

I was thinking that det should get whatever she thinks she would use --
whether that is free weights or a NordicTrack ski machine or a treadmill
or videos, well, that's her call ;-)

Why not get yourself another weight set to keep at the house so you
can lift at home.

Or even do some weighted cardio with dumbells ranging up to 20lbs for
starters.

Begin working out at home again instead of in a gym.

That's what I'm thinking - I have room for it, so when the membership runs
out, I'm going to invest in equipment. That's about the time I'll have a
tax refund too... But it seems like I get the most benefit from cardio as
far as energy levels and whatnot, so I'm going to try and up that a bit.

She's so full of it. Am emotional roller coaster. Itsy Bitsy has a one
track mind and a eight track hormonal system. Read her so-called diet
advice. "eat x gms of protein, balance everything x%, y%, z%" Same
crap over and over and over again.

Hi det,

What's wrong with you? Your Human, nothings wrong with that. If you
don't like going to the gym don't go. You can buy a really nice piece of
exercise equipment for your home with that $50 a month in less than a year.
You can walk, and run just outside your home so you don't need a gym unless
you really like to attend one.

I'm sure you can lose the fat and gain the muscle if you set the goal and
attend to it. You sound like your at a healthy person at a healthy weight
doing some great hobbies.

Keep up the great work,

Paul

It's just an ebb and flow kind of thing. My interests in all sorts of
things change with time. I'll be really into reading for a few months, and
then I wont pick up a book for months. Stuff like that. Skiing holds my
interest - it's exciting, the season is relatively short, so I cram as much
in as I can. I need something like that for each season. I think mountain
biking will be it...
