Core insanity
My weight had continued to just hover between 81 and 83.6 kg, and last
week I noticed that Weight Watchers has a free one-week trial for their online system, so I signed up to check it out. As people know, I am not actually on WW - I am on my own calorie-and-exercise based diet that is coincidentally very similar to WW Flex Points. Anyway, for a "change of pace" I decided to try the Core plan since Friday. Disaster! The first day I went up from 83.6 to 84.2 kg. The next day I was up to 84.6 kg. The next day 84.8 kg. And this morning 85.6 kg!!! Agh!!!!!!! This is crazy! I have been following the Core rules very very strictly and have barely dipped into my extra points. The problem, though, is clear. I am taking advantage of the Core rules and eating stuff I normally would not eat - like mashed pumpkin for in- between snacks, multiple bananas each day, fat free sugar free puddings for desserts at mealtime, etc. I tracked the calories as well and saw that "without stuffing myself" - just eating until I was satisfied, I was averaging more than 2300 calories/day just on Core foods. Obviously this plan is not for me. This morning I am back to strict calorie journaling. I can't believe I am up over 85 kg again! Agh! doug |

I do flex, I don't think there is any way that I could follow core. Really, it doesn't sound reasonable to me in any way. But different strokes for different folks I guess. |

The core plan has its own merits especially those as a result of eliminating
the chemicals, etc from eating processed foods. The downside of the plan is that the plan requires us to "stop when satisfied" to keep the calories under control. I can't do that myself. I do try and eat like core as much as possible because it is healthier but count points & journal for the exact problem you ran into. "doug lerner" wrote in message oups.com... I know I couldn't do well on a total core plan though I eat mostly core foods. If you have kept your journals take a look at them , go back to a week where you had a good loss and see what you ate. Try to copy that week or at least some of the days where you stayed within your 1700 calories. Bananas have more calories than other fruits so they are not your best fruit choice. You almost have to analyze each and every food but overall it does make a difference. Audrey |

you learned and that is a good thing... while you have the free week, look
at the recipes for some food ideas and lots of the articles are good also. Lee doug lerner wrote in message oups.com... I've done great on core...As you say different strokes...I find flex more
trouble for me...I don't wish to journal or track...I do though follow portion control which is I guess a deviation of core...But it works well for me...Just 5 lbs from goal...GG "Knit Chic" wrote in message ... that's an interesting story, but I think perhaps Doug might have gotten
a might carried away, if commenting about "multiple bananas" is an indication? As someone wrote in one of the blogs, "remember, calories DO count, and if you eat TWO oranges, this is no longer "CORE." I think that core takes some serious thinking. I am logging core on my old Palm and flex on the new one, just to see how they compare. So far, since I am following the core recommendations very, very closely, they are running neck-and-neck. ALso variety seems to be very important with this option. I try not to have the same fruits during the day ie, an orange at breakfast, apple at lunch and maybe some berries or banana in the evening with my yogurt. (Bananas are good at bedtime, help you sleep.) It will be interesting to see the outcome after my first week of doing this duplicate logging. I'm doing very well on core, so are a lot of my members.
Core doesn't say you can eat as much as you WANT of the core foods, but how much as you NEED. I love the core plan... freedom, yummy food AND weight loss!!
