Well I really really din't want to go. I'd had a lot of unplanned and
unwanted chocolate on my birthday. I know WW says just enjoy your treat and
account for it, but I'm just too immature to do that yet. So back to basics
this week, water, soup and tracking
I went up half a pound

It does take time to be able to deal with moderation. There might even be
some foods where you never get it and then those would be ones to avoid.
According to a poster in a different group, sometimes those triggers are
actually food intolerances or allergies.

There are a few foods that I just don't keep in the house but might eat at a
restaurant or something where the portion is more controlled. Brownies and
oatmeal raisin cookies are two good examples. If I really want an oatmeal
raisin cookie, there's a bakery in town that makes great ones so I go buy
one on occasion and enjoy it.

You need to do what works for you and if you haven't found that yet, just
keep trying different things.

The doctor put me on prednisone yesterday so I know my WI this week is going
to be skewed. I was tempted to go OP - mostly emotional because I've been
sick for 4 weeks now, but I'm going to try a new tack and increase my water
intake, avoid all salt, and increase my fruits and veggies until WI on
Monday and see if that helps. Even if it doesn't help this week it should
lead to another whoosh in the coming weeks when my system settles down. Of
course if the prednisone works I'll be back to running by Monday morning!

True. The most harmful foods should be completely avoided. Just recognize
them as being poisonous to your health. Once you do, avoiding them entirely
will become second nature and reduce or eliminate the need to stay on a
lifelong point-counting system.

Hey half a pound is not too bad. My last chocolate attack caused a very brief 3 pound gain. Easy come easy go though.

People who are naturally inclined toward obesity will always have to monitor
their intake whether it be by points or calories or some other counting
method. Years of disregarding signals of hunger or fullness can lead to a
malfuntion of the system, provided it was working correctly in the first
place. The body signals are no longer reliable so it doesn't actually
become "second nature." It's like taking care of any other chronic physical
condition or even disease.

It's been medically shown that the body, once weight loss has been achieved,
fights like hell to get the weight back. This makes it more difficult for
someone to maintain a normal weight than someone who was never fat to begin
with. Thus another reason for a lifelong maintenance plan.

A person can actually gain weight or become obese by eating "healthy" foods
too. Quantity matters.

Joe, that's great! I do know a few extremely disciplined people who do
not eat white foods, sugar, flour etc. and have totally given up
chocolate or alcohol. I love food and wine. I love to cook, garden,
eat. I love the fact that with WW I can have any foods I want. It is
up to me as to how and when I want to eat them. Consequently there are
things like ice cream sundaes or sweet mixed drinks like Mai Tais I
just never have. I've chosen not to have them. If I want extremely
delicious chocolate or a great glass of cabernet my WW plan is not
telling me these are forbidden harmful foods. My son cooks at the finest
restaurant in town and I have always said I have been able to lose or
maintain my weight having dinners there at least twice a month. I've
just learned to make wise choices the rest of my day and to avoid the
foods that cost too many points for the least amount of satisfaction.

Thanks for the support people.
I am re-framing my feelings about the unplanned food and the WI
consequences. Before I'd have been busy beating myself up for being weak but
I am taking it as information without judgement. If I do X, Y tends to
happen. So far today has gone well and I plan to finish under 18 points.

sorry you gained, but just think what it could have been before WW, so take
a NSV for going and sticking with it, Lee

and even if the meds stall you for a bit, continuing to eat healthy will be
a good set up for when you stop it, Lee
