Default Im out of Ketosis!!!

What happened?
I woke up this morning and Im not even registering light pink!!!!
I got a minor sinus infection 3 days ago and was put on Biaxin
(which makes me HIGH! a known side effect) Could the Biaxin cause a shift in
Ketosis?
Im addicted to testing myself for Ketosis, its an instant psychological
boost! I test 5 times a day! So I feel dejected this morning...

I would be on the lookout for a Candida overgrowth. This is a
common/possible side effect of taking the Biaxin. When the Candida start to
overgrow in the gut, this normally harmless (in fact beneficial) yeast
starts to produce, among other chemicals and toxins, acetaldehyde, which can
inhibit the fat oxidation cycle and cause a slight drop in ketone
production. Also, a Candida infection can reduce the body metabolism, thus
causing a reduction in ketone production.

All this does not mention the fact that with a sinus infection, your body is
fighting off the infection, which can throw other aspects of your system out
of whack.

I would keep drinking lots of water, stay on your LC (Reducing carbs is one
of the best ways of fighting Candida infections) and not worry too much
about the ketosis.

This "addiction" is giving you nothing more than an emptier purse and the
aforementioned feeling of dejection. So how can it be an "instant psychological
boost"?
Ketostix are entirely unnecessary on the low-carb plans. You can lose much
weight and never show even pink on the stix. The color depends on many
variables, such as how much exercise you got, the foods you ate, how much water
you drank, what medications you're on, etc., etc., and etc. Since you've been
sick, I would imagine that's the main culprit.
You can drive yourself crazy (crazier?) by keto testing or weighing umpteen
times a day. Give it up and stick with the program that works for you. Judge
your progress by the fit of your clothes and by weighing once a week.

Im not upset about it, Im just baffled!
Im actually back in the pink since 11:00!
I just like it thats all, Its kinda nifty neat-o
to get "proof" that a scientific reaction is happening in my body!
I like anything thats kinda like a test.
For Example:
If you have any leftover cereal (like Wheaties or Total) put 2 cups in a
Ziplock
baggie and add 2 cups water, shake it till its a slurry, then hold the bag
up in the
air and run a large magnet underneath it. You will see little black flecks
swarm to the
magnet, THATS IRON!
NEAT-O!

I dont weigh myself at all, I KNOW Ive lost a bunch cause I can fit into my
dark Blue Jeans again (WITH ROOM) and once again my Hand Made Corset only
has
2 inches of "Spring" in the back! The day I weigh myself is the day I manage
to get into
my Beige Suede "Shakira" pants with the lace up calves! I even stand on the
scale at the Docs backwards
So I dont Burst my bubble! But Those purple Sticks are far too Neat-O to
watch!

I'd bet that she tests so that she can see that it's working (that she's
in ketosis and burning fat) and she finds that encouraging.

When I was on a low fat low carb diet I was losing 10 pounds a week and
my tests never showed me in ketosis though I must have been. It
bothered me that I wouldn't show being in ketosis.

Getting weighed daily isn't/wasn't enough reinforcement for me.
I wanted more, and so I suspect does Preesi.

Ketostix can't tell you that.

OK, so why did Atkins recommend testing using them?

Yeah really!

Preesi,

The sticks do tell you if you are burning fat or not, but the problem is,
they don't tell you if it is body fat or dietary fat. Also, the amount of
fluids you drink will greatly affect your readings. My personal experience
with the sticks was that when I first started Atkins, the sticks gave me a
dark pink reading while I was on induction. As soon as I added a few carbs
to my diet, they didn't show any color change at all, even though I was
losing weight at a very nice pace. I panicked and thought something was
wrong because of the sticks "not working". This was all before I found this
newsgroup, so I really didn't know what was going on in regards to the
sticks. Having read the posts about ketosticks for quite a while now, I
found that many people lose weight low carbing without any change on the
sticks at all. Most people don't bother using them any more.

My advice is that if you like seeing what is going on inside your body and
you need to use the sticks for that, then just use them for entertainment
purposes and don't worry if you get no reaction from them on certain days.
The best advice would be to not use them at al and save the money and
possible dejection from a "bad" reading on the sticks.

Chris
