Default Wellbutrin and weight gain, anyone?

Anyone here taking Wellbutrin XL? After almost 8 years, I hit "SSRI
rebound" and my trusty Zoloft no longer worked. Wellbutrin SR gave me
hellacious headaches. Lexapro, being another SSRI, didn't work. Now after
2 months on Wellbutrin XL, I'm up EIGHT pounds despite religiously following
the program, working out twice a week, and dancing for an hour or more at
least twice a week.

I am at my wit's end. I have to take antidepressants - tricyclics and
MAOI's are out of the question, and at the moment SSRI's don't work for me.
There aren't a lot of medication choices left, but a medication that makes
me gain weight isn't exactly helping.

Is there anyone in the group who has gained weight on Wellbutrin XL (which
is advertised as not causing weight gain, sigh)? How did you stop the
drug-induced gains and begin losing again?

Donna,

I hope you get an answer to your question. I've only heard of one person (a
child) on Wellbutrin and they gained weight also--I don't know much about it
or how their parents helped them start losing but I know they were able to.

Hi Donna.....I'm also using Welbutrin (for depression AFTER quitting
smoking) but I blame my weight gain on the snacking I did after quitting.
I've been quit for 20 months now....gained 40 lbs and have lost every bit of
it , thanks to WW. Hope your weight levels off so that you don't hae to
QUIT the welbutrin...

Donna:

I'm on wellbutrin as well and I find it harder to lose weight now that
I'm on it than before when I wasn't on it (but I'm on alot more meds
too). I found the following link that shows that one of the side effects
of the wellbutrin is weight gain or loss:

http://www.drugs.com/xq/cfm/pageid_0...L/qx/index.htm

Look under the heading "What are the possible side effects of bupropion?

I don't know what to say but I feel that there are other antidepressants
out there. Maybe you can ask your Dr. about another one?
