Default Weight limit on Bikes?

Ok there has to be one.. what is the general limit? I would love to bike
but I am FAT and am afraid I will break the bike. I hate walking but I
guess if that is what I have to do til I get down low enough to get a bike
that will work then thats what i will have to do *grumble*

If you do any serious walking, you'll be asking yourself "what's the
weight limit on feet?".

I think I almost reached that for my feet! After I had my daughter I
balooned to 355. I could barely move but I lost a bit of weight.. now I am
321 and I can move.. I have some feet issues though that make walking
uncomfortable for the long haul. I should go get inserts for my shoes but
that means ugly shoes Actualy it isnt my feet that hurt it is my hips and
bum area... Maybe the alignment is off when I walk?

Ask over in rec.bicycles.misc or rec.bicycles.tech. I'm sure some of the
heavier bikes with wide knobby tires will easily support you. Of course,
I'm not referring to a wallyworld special - I'm talking about a real bike
sold at a real live bike shop.

new seat and blow up the tires? hehe Actualy we are waiting on DH getting a
new job.. if he gets it I will be able to get a nice bike I think

That's one of the myriad reasons you're not supposed to weigh so much.

Having to wear ugly shoes I mean.

LOL actualy it is a birth defect type of thing.. I was overweight as a child
but it got worse after I tried to correct the problem.. I was told not to do
anything more then walk slowly until I had all 16 operations! I stopped
after the first one! That means I went from a semi active over eater to a
non active overeater... Now I need to get off my @$$ and work!

As opposed to a real dead bike shop?

You know Tori, I asked the same question to the local bike dealer and
repairman and he said he weighed 350 and was 6'2". Well weight is
weight and he said he rides daily with no problems. So... at 300 I
bought one but I did put a wide ass cushy gel seat on mine so it
wouldnt look like my ass swallowed the seat. Sad thing is surgery
recovery time has been slow and painful so I wont be riding for a while
but I love doing it on the nice flat water front trails!!!!

You know I spent $250 for orthotics in my shoes, because of plantar
fascitis sp didnt work but you know what does work? Those wonderful
Merrell shoes that are shaped like tennis shoes but look sort of like
hiking boots. I got $100 shoes for $40 new on ebay. Email me privately
and I will send you a pic of what I wear. They are absolutely the most
comforatable shoe I have ever owned. I have 2 new pairs put away I got
them so cheap!!!!

So did you just get a run of the mill bike and add a cushy seat to it or a
fancy one?
