Low Carb Beer and Atkins
So I started this low carb diet, and I like to have a few beers every night.
I started drinking low-carb Amstel Light, which only has a few grams of carbs. I drink about 8 beers a night, which keeps me in the induction stage of Atkins. I've been eating lots of eggs, cheese, meat with my beer, but I have gained 9 lbs over the past week. I don't understand what is the matter. I've limited my carbs to 24 grams per day. Has anyone experienced similar problems? I am thinking of switching to the Zone or maybe another diet that would let me drink more beer because Atkins doesn't seem to work. -- Jefferson N. That sounds a little like you are on your way to a drinking problem if you can't live without beer or less than 8. I mean, one or two...ok but 8 every night?? Do you really need that many? Just curious. Well, if you read the book, it clearly states two things: one, alcohol is *not* allowed on induction. Two, the liver and body stop fat burning when there is a presence of alcohol in the system because it has to clear off all that alcohol. I've been eating lots of eggs, cheese, meat with my beer, but I have gained 9 lbs over the past week. I don't understand what is the matter. Because alcohol dehydrates you but your water weight is being retained because you are being dehydrated by the beer. It is using the water weight as a way to stay hydrated. While you are drinking that beer, have you drank any water? You need to drink at least 100oz. of water to get rid of the toxins in your system. I've limited my carbs to 24 grams per day. On 2 week indcution, it is 20 grams, not 24. Which means you are eating a surpluss of 4 extra grams a day, which means 28 extra grams a week. That is why you are gaining. Has anyone experienced similar problems? Yeah, if you aren't careful about counting carbs, won't give up addictions or old vices and don't follow the program correctly. It happens to everyone who lives for addictions instead of giving them up. I am thinking of switching to the Zone or maybe another diet that would let me drink more beer because Atkins doesn't seem to work. You haven't even given this one a chance. If you haven't even finished induction, how can you say that you've given it a chance?? Please keep trying. You just have to let your addictions go. cut out the beer for 2 weeks, and when you can drink them again, don't drink 8 of them. One or two is enough, dude. It is hard in the beginning but you will be amazed at how much better you'd feel. lowcarb_newbie |

Ah yes...the "Diet of the Week" for Norbert. Dude, if you're drinking any beer, you ain't on Atkins. You'll never get to induction, but on the bright side your breath couldn't get any worse than it already is. Thanks for sharing this with every f'ing NG in North America.
