Broke another barrier
"Chris Braun" wrote in message ... On Sun, 28 Sep 2003 01:58:43 GMT, "Cat" wrote: I picked my weight goal as the weight I used to be before I gained 100 lbs. I weighed 120 lbs. nearly my entire adult life, only being heavy the last couple of years. I'm 5'5", so this is a pretty good weight for me. I would say my bone structure is average, neither large nor small. I may not reach my goal, but I think I can get close to it. Anyway, it is worth a try. Cat Thanks! I'm just a tad taller than you -- about 5'6" -- but have a larger bone structure and a lot of muscle. I weighed around 140-145 for a long time before I put on weight. I'm not sure I want to get quite that low now, though. I was much less muscular then, and I don't want to lose it. Chris My initial goal weight of 150 was chosen by me and my doctor - initially he said 160 until my actual frame size became apparent. I wanted to go to 150 and he thought that it would be a good upper limit weight for my height (5'4 3/4" but I used to be 5'5"). I told him I wanted to eventually work my way down to 135-140 and he told me that I might be uncomfortable, but I wouldn't be underweight and there was no reason why I couldn't shoot for that over time - just not on the fasting part of the HMR program. We're going to play it by ear from here since I'm officially in transition from very low calories to a more normal level as of yesterday. My BMI is now 25 which is borderline overweight and there is no way that I am overweight right now. Even the doctor said that BMI is a guideline, not a strict standard. Now I'm more concerned now with losing more of the fat deposits in my abdomen, legs, and upper arms and work my way down from a size 10 to a size 8. I figure I'll end up weighing somewhere in the 140's until I have my tummy tuck and any other excess skin (summer '05). I think I have quite a few pounds of skin hanging around so I'm not going to get too hung up on the scale as long as it stays below 150 and I can fit into my jeans comfortably. Jenn |

I'm thinking that I'll decide on a good weight based more on clothing size than on the scale. I'm not sure what that size will be, though. Now I generally wear size 14. I think 12 might be a reasonable goal. I'm not sure I can go lower than that overall given my bone structure -- width of hip bones and shoulders; It might be that if I lost more weight than that I'd just end up a sort of scrawny 12. But we shall see :-). I don't now have enough excess skin to warrant surgery. I have some sort of wrinkly areas but no real folds or anything like that. (I always carried weight pretty evenly and didn't have a really huge belly, so no folds there.) If I felt that the last 10 pounds I might want to lose made the difference between major skin folds and not, I might just decide to stay where I am. Again, we shall see. I'm not keen on the idea of having surgery for this. I might if it became a significant comfort or health issue, but it's certainly not now. Chris |

Chris My belly is really bad right now and I'm starting to have skin problems. It's a serious comfort issue when my entire torso doesn't just jiggle, but bounces when I do anything high impact. I have to wear spandex to keep it all still. I hope this improves over time as my arms have, but if the infections and pain continue I'll have no choice there. If the arms are still hanging and the thighs, I'm going to just have them done at the same time to get it over with. It really is a comfort issue for me more than looks - I never intended to wear belly exposing clothing due to too many stretch marks and my gall bladder surgery scar Jenn |

The infections? Weight loss related infections?

I think I was around 140 at that time. I'm only 5'3" but I'm far from having a petite build. I measure 36" around the rib cage right below the bust. I currently have a 41" bust but had a 38" the last time I wore the size 10 slacks. I have very little fat in this area and don't think the bones are going to get any smaller g Anything below a 10 on the bottom and the top starts looking out of proportion. I'm pretty broad through the shoulders. I'm like many here - I'll just have to see what I look like I as lose the pounds. I would like to see a little more definition in the shoulder and arm area. I already am feeling like I'm probably pushing the boundaries of what's age-appropriate by wearing slightly low-cut jeans, denim jackets, cargo pants, and stuff like that. In my head I think of all this as teenager clothing. I'm having fun clothes shopping, though :-). Chris |

I'm about 37.5" under the bust, with almost no fat in that area -- ribs are easily visible. My bust measurement is currently 43.5". It will probably go down some, but I don't think it has been under 40" anytime in my adult life. In any case, I'm sufficiently broad-shouldered that having a smaller bust measurement wouldn't necessarily mean I could wear smaller shirts. My hips are currently 42"; I don't think they've ever been much under 40". My waist is around 31.5" and will get smaller, but I think not tons -- maybe 29" or so? Measurements of 40-29-40 would make me -- according to the size chart I'm looking at at the moment -- a 16 on the top and a 12 in the waist and hips. I mostly wear knit tops so that isn't as bad a discrepancy as it might seem. I have lots of shoulder definition -- could use a little more in the upper arms. It's coming as I lose fat. It's interesting to watch :-). Chris |
