The rich get richer by acting poor, and the poor get poorer by acting rich That's a good saying... Goes along the lines of _Millionaire next door_. i Indeed. I am sorry to say you are probably right. I am a lost soul, not need to feel sorry for me. I also noticed that Stacy has automatically pronounced a lot of vegetables are "icky" not realizing that there are many ways to prepare them that would change the flavors in amazing ways. A lot of veggies? The only veggies that get mentioned is cabbage. Cabbage is not a lot. And from what is see in my country cabbage is not popular. I still say the problem is in lack of education. Well, for $5/week I was eating pretty marginal food. It was boring, and on the cabbage/beans/rice end of the scale. By comparison, $4/p/d is luxurious. We drink wine, eat steaks, eat fresh vegetables, eat fresh fish, etc. There are no community organizations that teach eating or cooking cheap though. Some of the extension services touch on it, but they rely on fixed menus and primarily canned food. I wouldn't eat those meals. -- Elaine The rich get richer by acting poor, and the poor get poorer by acting rich. |

Stacy, those things don't have much to do with eating cheap at home, and why it seems to be less popular, or how that contributes toward making people fat. -- Best Regards, Evelyn (to reply personally, remove 'sox') |

This one may have benefited you if you learned some shopping tips for fruits and vegetables such as buying in season and shopping at farmer's markets. You are a god. Thank you. Next time you might want to actually read posts instead of morphing them into your pet peeve. I dropped out when it became obvious that we had reached the entrenched attitude stages - "I'm right, you're wrong". I haven't seen much in the way of cites or evidence, apart from anecdotes and icky cabbages. And we certainly hven't seen much logical argument. However, I agree that "Some trolls, including yours, are beneficial"; until they degenerate to repetition of positions. Cheers Alan, T2, Australia. -- Everything in Moderation - Except Laughter. |

"Stacey Bender" wrote in message ... You are wrong about fast food being cheap. No, not really. It may not be as cheap as some horrible diet from cabbage, potatoes, rice, and chicken. It is cheap, or at least comparable to a diet of lean meats, fruits, a veggies, that is healthy food people would actually want to eat. Given the cost per calorie, the taste, and convenience, FF is a dominant option, as we see from actual behaviour. Frozen hamburger patties. 5 lbs (15 patties) for $10. That's 67 cents each. Hamburger buns are about $2 for 8, which is 25 cents each. Throw a frozen patty in a frying pan and in less than 10 minutes it is done. Cheaper than fast food, more substantial than fast food, more convenient than fast food. Not healthy, but that doesn't seem to enter into your calculations. Rich |

If hardly anyone ate cabbage the supermarkets would not carry so much of it. I have never been to a pot luck and seen a cabbage dish. I have never seen anyone buy it. I have rarely seen it in a dish in a non-asian restauraunt. I have never seen it served when visiting a friend. So i do not confuse my tastes with the world, but i also think cabbage is low on the popularity list. |
