There are no mirrors at my gym. I do have full mirrored closet doors in the
exercise room at home but find they only time I ever used them was to check
my form on certain exercises. I have the VCR on the opposite wall from the
mirrors so I usually have my back to them.

The last line in the article summed it up. Mirrors are a necessary evil in a
gym where weight lifting or classes like Pilates is going on. Mirrors allow
for form to be monitored. I don't know why any gym would put them in the
cardio machine rooms. Who would want to watch themselves walk in place on a
treadmill?

Um...I don't think so. I know Chris's and my coach has us lift towards a
mirror so we can watch our form. I also use the mirror when squatting or
doing good mornings to check on my form. I have a nasty habit of letting my
shoulders roll or letting my head move with effort. If I look myself dead
in the eye, while I don't like seeing that little vein that throbs on my
forehead, I do tend to keep my head still and my form better. Elise
(however, I do get a kick out of the guys that watch themselves doing bicep
curls...not their back or their form...just gazing fondly at their huge
rippling muscles.)

Doesn't make them a necessary evil.
