New Diet Drug - Devil in the Details
The new weight loss drug getting all the press caused some (but not all)
patients taking the highest dose to lose a whopping 5% of their body weight. So if you were 250 lbs, you'd lose 12 lbs--about what you'd lose in 2 weeks of induction. And you'd have to keep taking the (expensive) drug and suffering it's not inconsiderable side effects to keep it off. That is a far cry from miracle weight loss. Studies have shown that losing 5% of weight is easy. In fact, it is only after you hit that 5% that the body starts fighting back. This is about people profiting from investment in the stock of the company making this stuff, not health. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 5 years. Below goal for weight. Type 2 diabetes, hba1c 5.7 . It appears to be less effect than a lifestyle change, eating health and exercise. BJ |

Several of my woman friends were EAGER to get a prescription. Later, the whole thing died. Only a few peoplle managed to lose much weight as a Prozac side effect. Maybe it was because they didn't do "Depression Pig-Out" eating. I could never find out more details of the weight loss flop. Jim |

Yeah, but it is the new miracle drug. lol To be honest, there are just too
many people looking for a pill that will improve their lives somehow. What people don't seem to understand is that there are no shortcuts. Eat right and exercise and you can get where you want to go, as we most of us know here. Curt "Jenny" wrote in message ... Rudy,
Well, from the drug company perspective, this makes Accomplia the perfect drug. Once they sell you a drug that blocks the pleasure receptors, they can also addict you to an expensive antidepressant and mycoxiflopin. g -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 5 years. Below goal for weight. Let's see, small weight loss ~verses~ difficulty experiencing pleasure and possible depression. What Devil could persuade a person to consider that choice? Precisely. I was listening to "Science Friday" on NPR yesterday, and they were discussing it. Why oh why would someone be willing to reduce all pleasure in order to lose 5% of their body weight? Enormous price for a tiny size change. Our culture is sick. Priscilla |
