Can anyone recommand a good tasting cereal?
Jean,
I eat soy, and yes it is soy. BTW, today I was away from home and I finally found the Z-carb bars you'd been asking me about. I tested the Dark Chocolate Macadamia nut. The flavor had that cooling taste that is typical of sugar alcohols. I thought the chocolate taste was pretty weak compared to Lindt 70%. The calories are very high-181 for a small bar. I ate a segment 1/3 the size of the whole bar--about the size of the portion I eat of the Lindt bars, and did not get the same feeling of satisfaction I get from the Lindt, instead, I found myself quickly craving more. I haven't had time to check my blood sugar, but since a piece of dark chocolate the same size with real sugar doesn't raise my blood sugar perceptibly either, I don't expect to see anything. For me, I think I'll just stick with one Lindt. The carbs may be lower with the Zbar, but the calories are very high and the deep chocolate flavor seemed weak to me. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. At goal for weight. Here I was just gonna check 7-11 again. BTW, that cooling effect might be okay in some chocolate-mint preparation. -- Jean B. |

Z-bars (was Can anyone recommand a good tasting cereal?
Oddly enough I just tried one of those myself tonight for the first time. I
thought it was fabulous! I did not experience any of the creepy taste sensation I get with those candies sweetened with malitol, and I thought the chocolate taste was very intense and satisfying. Best commercial SF bar I have ever tried. Not an every day event, but it was a great experience. And no cravings at all afterwards. Debbie "Jenny" wrote in message ... Z-bars (was Can anyone recommand a good tasting cereal?
Yes, I got it at the local 7-11 (in NJ). I walked in the door and
immediately to the left as you walked in the door they had an entire display rack of all sorts of LC bars and choices, including 4 different types of the Zcarb bars. They also carry a whole bunch of the Atkins products, but I didn't really look and see what they had. The poster on the window showed the Atkins bread for one, but I'm not especially interested in bread. I just saw the bars, grabbed a few to try out, and left. I've tried two so far - the choc-macadamia, and the choco-PB, and thought both were excellent. Debbie "Jean B." wrote in message ... Did you get it at a 7-eleven? Z-bars (was Can anyone recommand a good tasting cereal?
Jean,
There were two 7-11s in a town I drove through yesterday, Sunderland MA. One had them, the other didn't. I tried a second piece of the Zcarb bar last night and had pretty much the same experience. Something about that "cooling" taste that comes with sugar alcohols sparks off a hunger response in me and makes me want to eat more. I've noticed this before with the Ross chocolates. Since I really don't need 180 calories of extra stuff in my daily plan right now (I'm balancing out the excesses of Christmas week by eating very modestly) the carbs aren't as much as an issue for me as the calories so the Lindt 70% square is a better treat value for me. Needless to say if you wanted to eat three square of chocolate rather than one, and could handle the 180 calories, the Zcarb bar would be useful. As advertised it doesn't seem to cause a sugar spike. The carbs in the Lindt are higher--about 4 grams and only allow for eating one square. But for some reason I find the Lindt 70% extremely satisfying in a way no other chocolate is. And after eating it I don't feel like I need to eat any more chocolate which is rarely the case with other chocolates. (Don't ask me the details of the Christmas week excesses but the "Chocolate" played a major part in them. g) -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. At goal for weight. Type 2 diabetes, hba1c 5.2. I assume this LC poster is new, so maybe they are making more of an effort to get such things in. Happily, the 7-Eleven nearest to me is the only one that has the Iced Botanical drinks, which are pretty good. (I prefer the strawberry-kiwi one.) -- Jean B. |
