The U.K. Foresight Project Report - Tackling Obesities: Future Choices
A U.K. project on obesity has finished (or as the Brits call it, has
launched)and the technical reports (about a dozen) and the final report are available for PDF download he http://www.foresight.gov.uk/Obesity/...nal/Index.html There is an Executive Summary, but I have chosen not to include it for the convenience of nitpickers and general negativists seeking something brief to criticise. I have seen that mentality in action a great deal recently, and will do nothing to encourage it. The home page of the project describes itself as: ============================================== Introduction: The project will gather scientific evidence from across a wide range of disciplines to inform a strategic view tof this issue. The project is due to launch in October 2007 The Project's Director is Sir David King, Chief Scientific Adviser at the Government Office for Science. The project was overseen by a high level Stakeholder Group chaired by Dawn Primarolo. Click here for a list of the Stakeholder Group members. The project will gather scientific evidence from across a wide range of disciplines to inform a strategic view of this issue. The project is due to launch in October 2007. Project Aim: "To produce a long-term vision of how we can deliver a sustainable response to obesity in the UK over the next 40 years." Project Objectives: * To use the scientific evidence base from across a wide range of disciplines to identify the broad range of factors that influence obesity, looking beyond the obvious * To create a shared understanding of the relationships between key factors influencing levels of obesity and their relative importance . . * To build on this evidence to identify effective interventions * To analyse how future levels of obesity might change and the most effective future responses Project Process: The project can be divided into 5 phases: Scope, Review, Analysis, Development and Launch & Action. The project is currently in the 'Launch & Action' phase. ================================================== ==================== This may or may not be a great step forward. http://www.foresight.gov.uk/Obesity/...nal/Index.html |
