An interesting post.

I agree with the idea that insulin reduces lifespan, but I'm not comfortable
applying an insect study to humans.

If I were opposed to the ideas in the article, I would point out that the
article is part of selling a book.

It does make one wonder, though, why the government keeps pushing low fat,
high carb when more and more "evidence" (I'm loathe to call most studies
"evidence") that insulin is bad, and high carb causes high insulin.

Well, folks still like to sometimes favor "Japan" type diets of low fat,
low meat and high carbohydrates as "Healthy".

There was the famous "& Nations" study of comparative diets many years
ago that gave emphasis to low fat and high carbs. It is also common
knowledge that had Ansel Keyes included France into his study as an 8th
Nation, his concluysions would have been weakened.

Everybody likes to exclude the traditinal high fat diet of France from
their dietary studies.

This reminds me of Religion. Often, folks know what they want the data
to say before they do the study.

The human body is so good at taking care of itself that it can exist on
all kinds of combinations of food. Therefore trying to really learn much
from observing what people eat is probably doomed. There is a very
complex mechanism indie this food-health link and to remain ignorant of
the complexity is foolish.

Yet, to study the complexity is hard work, and humans generally shy away
from hard mental work.

It is evident everywhere, including here in discussions.

Of course, the fact that on traditional food, Asians are shorter than
Westerners is never considered.

So, there is little frank complete correlatin between diet and body
development in "Official Diet" studies.

In the 1700's, Thomas Jefferson made note of the larger height and
greater mass of Americans, compared to Contintntals. Some asserted that
it was the abundance of foods other than carbohydrates that was important.
