Old Home Movies
*** This post originated in alt.support.diet.low-carb -- it's appearance
in any other forum is deceptive and unauthorized. *** I'm currently in the process of digitizing and editing some old family movies from the 70s. There I am at the family Christmas party in 1971 when my son was a mere 7 months old. There I am at my grandpa's birthday party in 1974. And there I am at my mother's wedding later that same year. Two things about me in those movies are very noticeable to me now: a) I was quite slim (118-120 lbs) and wore a shamelessly high miniskirt to show off my fabulous legs (and, obliviously, often my fabulous ass (hey we ALL have fabulous asses at the age of 19) whenever I took a deep breath ;-), and b) I was always at the buffet table. I could not keep away from it. Pick, pick, pick. I was always reaching for something to eat. I got away with it when I was young and energetic, but that would soon change. I stopped wearing the mini- skirts eventually, but I continued to gravitate to the buffet table. I couldn't help myself -- it sang it's siren song and I fell for it every time. I am SO glad to have changed my habits and will never again be a slave to the wickedly beckoning party buffet table! I will also never again wear a miniskirt, but that's another story ;-) -- Saffire 205/134/125 Atkins since 6/14/03 Progress photo: http://photos.yahoo.com/saffire333 *** This post originated in alt.support.diet.low-carb -- it's appearance in any other forum is deceptive and unauthorized. *** |

I think it started about the time of my first job. There was a Dairy Queen next door and I got into the habit of having a Danish from there every day. The cook would slather the grill with butter and then heat it up for me -- it was DIVINE! I also ate most of my lunches either there or at some other fast food place and gained about 5-6 lbs within a couple of months. My weight was a problem before that though -- no so much in being overweight, but in being able to keep it under control. After I had my son (at the age of 15), I got down to 103 lbs. My grandfather said I was too thin and needed to eat more. So I did. It's been a rollercoaster battle ever since. I mark my out-of-control eating habits to even younger than that, though. I have in my mind a turning point in my lifetime eating habits. My sister and I shared a bedroom when we were kids. When I was about 13, I found her eating some Ho-Hos. These weren't just ANY Ho-Hos, though -- she had bought a box of TEN of them all at once. It had never occurred to me that a KID could buy in quantity. Ho-Hos came in packs or 2-3 -- only MOM's bought the BIG boxes of them to feed their brood. It was a major revelation to me that *I* could buy goodies in quantity as long as I had the babysitting money to do so! I bought my OWN box of Ho-Hos after that -- but I always ended up eating the entire box within a day or 2 at the most. I had NO willpower when something like that was calling my name and right there for the taking. I later got into the habit of buying pounder bags of M&Ms, too. Pretty much anything sweet that I bought was bought in quantity and I just couldn't seem to stop myself from eating them all in a short period of time. I can trace mine back to a home economics class in junior high, when we made cherry cheesecake. Marsha/Ohio |

It's funny---when I was 20 I thought I was fat, but when I look at pics
of me from back then, I really wasnt fat, at all. LOL, when I see a recent pic of me, tho, I always think, "my god...am I that FAT???" Somebody said to me the other day, "You have great legs for a woman your age." Gee, thanks. LassChance |
