“Gluten is killing all of America” Heh.
http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2012/0...ll-of-america/ "But this mainstream sitcom depiction of gluten-freedom is a huge step in the right direction . . . because modern wheat is unsuitable for consumption for ANY human!" Contrast and compare with the ADA's recommendation to eat lot's of "healthy whole grains." I tend to be the one who says "Moo" in response to being fed cattle fodder. Being mildly wheat intolerant normally has me one of the most biased in the room. Even I figure the current anti-wheat fad is over blown. Wheat or gluten is a problem for maybe ten percent. Low carb is beneficial for at least fifty percent. I think most of the benefit of this current fad comes from the wrong reason. It's lower carb without being called lower carb. I bet the gluten free fad will pass, people will eat cattle fodder again, feel worse, but because they don't know the actual cuse is total carbs they won't be able to repeat it. Contrast and compare with the ADA's recommendation to eat lot's of "healthy whole grains." Those studies are crazy. They compare a diet high in refined grains with a diet high in whole grains and from that study conclude that whole grains are beneficial. Show me a study that compares a diet high in non-tubre root vegetables with a diet high in whole grains. Does anyone actually think oatmeal is better for people than carrots? Yeah, don't expect this study any time soon. |

I agree with that assessment. I see people on TV that are on the current "gluten is bad" fad. But if you listen to what they are doing, in most cases they aren't just avoiding gluten. They are sharply reducing refined carbs. So, I think they have arrived at a good solution, but possibly for the wrong reason. Meaning I'm not convinced if you replaced wheat with corn or rice flour and made the same refined carb products that they wouldn't be just as bad for most people. |

Even I figure the current anti-wheat fad is over blown. Wheat or gluten is a problem for maybe ten percent. I think the elimination of wheat, whether you have Celiac's disease or not, is extremely important to overall health and weight control. Read Dr. Davis's book ("Wheat Belly"), it'll explain the science behind it. And not only do I *not* think this is a fad, I'd hate to have a large position in certain food stocks, especially those companies that make cereals. So let's keep an eye on their stock prices and see who's right, EH? It's just one more book and the chance that it's going to have some big impact on food stocks is silly. It won't have any more impact than the thousands of other books that all had their moment in the sun too. 1% read all the books and do something different. The other 99% just keep eating what they like. And I'll bet that most of the people jumping on the wheat belly fad will be forgetting it in a year. All those large food companies have all kinds of other products. They track what people buy and will just readjust the products as needed. People are still going to have to eat something, and those companies will still be supplying it. I've also seen folks taking apart Wheat Belly as misrepresenting the science, incorrectly attributing things to studies that the studies did not actually show, etc. I don't have the need nor inclination to look into it any further. For me personally, wheat has no different effect than eating any other refined carb products. |

It's just one more book Actually, it's a highly referenced book. and the chance that it's going to have some big impact on food stocks is silly. We'll know soon enough. It's just one more book Actually, it's a highly referenced book. As if that mattered. If Atkins best sellers for decades didn't sink the cereal companies, I highly doubt they are shaking in their boots over this fad. My prediciton is that in another year, some folks will be on to another hot idea of the moment. But the vast majority will still be eating and doing the same things they are now. and the chance that it's going to have some big impact on food stocks is silly. We'll know soon enough. This coming from the expert who claims: HIV is not the cause of AIDS HIV is harmless AIDS is really caused by lack of sleep and diet No virus can cause cancer HPV is not a cause of cervical cancer Dogman is actually quite proud of the above. And I'm the one that's scientifically illiterate? Anything else you'd like to add to your list today for everyone to see? |
