A Ross wrote: Have a good one! Amy Happy Birthday, Neil. Next year you'll be able to do what many cyclist do... a birthday ride with the miles equal to their age. I usually hold off on mine until warmer weather as I have one of those January birthdays, too. The weather doesn't always cooperate especially since I'm getting up there in numbers Beverly |

Actually, it was sent over by a pizza shop that had just opened as an attempt to bring in people. I had a half slice. That unfortunately helped push my calories to 2300 for the day. But that's still less than I have been grazing on over the past two months. I feel I've been able to refocus my attention and energies to losing weight over the past three days. Three events helped me get back on the path - turning 41, along with the inevitable comparisons among the past, present, and future connected to that event; the weight loss and performance contest I entered at www.fatcyclist.com; and meeting and working with a 255 pound cyclist on Saturday. The combination of the three remined me I have to get serious about this again. I'm at the weight I was at 20 years ago, but I don't want to be at the weight I had 20 years ago, because 20 years ago I was miserable, fat, and sluggish. I want to do the things I've never done, that I never could do. So I went to the bike path Sunday morning and struggled through a three mile time trial. I'm trying to keep calories to under 2200 - I was close the last three days, with 2400, 2200, and 2300. I've stepped up my exercise, and will focus on exercise that will help me become a stronger bicyclist. And I will reach 200 pounds by August 1. I celebrated the day with 45 minutes of cardio, a half hour of chest and shoulder lifting, and completing a set of sit-ups. I haven't been able to do sit-ups since high school. Losing 14 inches off of my belly probably helped. I also signed up for a spin class and "power yoga." I'm not sure what the latter is, but it was suggested as something that might assist me on the bike - I'm not the calmest when in the saddle. Oh, and I squeeked out another pound this week. I don't want to be a figure of fun. I'm not a fat man on a bike. I'm a real cyclist, and I'm hereafter going to do everything in my power to achieve my fullest potential on the bike..." |
