My son takes it for a neurological disorder and has never dropped a pound.
I've read this, but don't know anyone who takes it for weight loss.

I used to work with someone that took it and lost 80 lbs. The word spread
and 2 other people took it. One of them lost about 20 lbs and the 3rd
person didn't lose anything.

Nope, because it won't make you healthy. For good health,
exercise, eat a variety of high fiber foods, get your sleep
and fluids.

I've never known anyone to take topamax for weight loss. It is a seizure
drug and many people will experience loss of appetite and weight loss as a
side effect. It has a relatively safe profile but as for me, I don't like
the idea of taking meds that have such a profound effect on brain chemistry
for cosmetic reasons.

I just read an article in a magazine about 5 or 6 different drugs that are
now being prescribed as "off-label" for weight loss. Topomax was one, there
were 2 antidepressants (Wellbutrin was one), another seizure drug I believe,
and two others that completely escape me. Since the drugs were for
conditions I probably won't have, I really didn't remember the names. I
wish I hadn't thrown out all of those magazines

I take wellbutrin (zyban) now since I just quit smoking 2 mos 2 weeks ago.
I wonder if it is helping me lose the weight too? Hmmm... I just take 1/2
the prescribed dose, so I don't take that much of it.

I may have the name of the drug wrong because it was an antidepressant, not
the stop smoking one. I'm not very good at remembering specific details of
what I read - especially from magazines that I read before bed.

It is the same thing. Wellbutrin is the generic name of Zyban. Zyban is
not covered by insurance, wellbutrin is. The ins. companies don't want to
pay for stop smoking aids. I have not noticed anything different with my
moods. I don't suffer from depression. I just don't crave cigs or food as
much anymore...

Actually, the generic name for both is bupropion. It has two different
brand names for the two different uses.

Zyban is not covered by insurance, wellbutrin is.

I think that's a little short-sighted on their part. I guess they'd
rather pay more later?
