Thanks for the info. Yes I did get photo viewer software with my
camera but it's mostly good for transferring the pictures to my
harddrive, rotating the orientation of pictures, and burning CDs to be
played back on DVD players (via TV). I already use IRFANVIEW, a great
tool.

My camera uses an xD picture card. I purchased a 128mb storage card at
the same time I bought the camera so memory is NOT an issue, even for
high resolution pix. And I've got 15 gigs of empty storage on my
computer hard drive. For the time being anyway, I'm in no danger of
running out of storage space. I burned CDs of our Christmas photos to
send home with my daughters and even with high resolution files, the
pix used up only 150mb of space. I'm still looking into software for
editing and organizing my photos...

I didn't get any shots of me (I was the photographer!) so I won't be
posting any pictures of me just yet. But the next time I go for a
haircut, I'll ask my stylist (and friend from my childhood
neighborhood) to snap a photo. I've been wanting one to put next to
one of my BEFORE pictures. My next problem will be figuring out how to
get it on the web.

Thanks for all the tips, Fred. You were generous to give so much of
your time.

More than likely the digital camera came with an assortment of
software. But a terrific free tool is IRFANVIEW:

http://www.irfanview.com/

Download it and you can quickly view the photos you save/copy to the
harddrive.

Now storage of such images will take up space and you probably do not
want to potentially lose them so you will periodically want to
copy/move them to offline storage such as burning a CD if you have
burner???? Or if you want to give the images to someone, a cd is a
way to do it.

If you want to share them, depending on resolution (size and quality)
they are saved in, sending them can be time consuming or computer
viewing (we talk printing next (g)) and Irfan view, if you download
the PLUGINS can reduce the image size and make them manageable for
attachments to email or if you have a webpage to show them. My
webpages use reduced images.

I don't generally print but for good quality printing you want higher
resolution images. Most cameras have a choice of resolutions.
Those are those "megapixels" you read about in ads.

Also what type of media does your camera use? Compact Flash (CF) or
SD or???? You might want to extra "film" and Costco sometimes has a
good deal on those formats.

How's that for a start.

And now for a digital image of the famous Prairie Roots!!!! (G)

And, the numbers you cite from last xmas to this are terrific. Great
job.

NYNY week 12:

My current weight: 169.8 lbs
Weight change since my last recorded weight: +1.6 lbs
Total weight change to date: -62.2 lbs

Contrary to what my WI indicates, I did OK this week. I allowed for
some sweet indulgences, ate ham, drank alcohol, got in lots of
activity points, took lots of photos (167!!) with my new digital
camera and totally enjoyed the week with my daughters and my
granddaughter. Anyone care to share any tips on digital photo editing
and photo sharing? This is all quite new to me.

By Thursday morning, the scale had dropped to 167.2. On Saturday it
jumped up for WI, and now today the scale has settled back down to
168. When I recall that last Christmas I weighed more than 230 lbs,
I'm really quite pleased with my current weight. And I'm ready to keep
going.

I had a gratas copy of Thumbsplus 4 and it seemed like a reasonable
tool but I did not use it very often - it contains an organizer and
editing tools - I don't know about its more recent versions. I do use
Jasc's PaintShopPro but it is getting very complex. Jasc does also
have some organizing tools.

I forget Adobe's simpler tool but I know it comes with quite a few
cameras.

Have fun - digital is the new polaroid - instant images.

Sorry for your gain, PR... but when you look at last Christmas that gain
sure doesn't matter much does it? Great loss you've got there, girl!
Congrats!

LOL! You gotta love that pesky ol' scale jumping around, don't you? You do have
a great attitude though and I know this gain will only be temporary. I also over
indulged through the holidays. Looking back through the years I did realize that
what I now consider over indulging is NOTHING in comparison! Hey, we just enjoyed
life a bit fuller than normal - nothing wrong with that on occassion. Right?
