Ray Audette author of Paleothin mentions that he's eaten a pound of bacon every day for years (I assume he drains off most of the fat but I have no clue how much) so clearly he eats plenty of fat+protein calories every day, and he's maintained a thin body for years. Are there other similar data points? I don't drain the fat but I do soak out the sugar in cold water. To go extreemly low-carb, one must eat a large amount of fat. Protein intake of over 39% ( by calories) will produce protein toxcity. for info about low-term low carbing see: Shaper, A. G. et al, "Cardiovascular studies in the Samburu tribe of Northern Kenya." American Heart Journal Vol. 63 No. 4 (April 1962) 437-442. The Sambura ( a Tutsi tribe)have been a very low carb diet for centuries. They traditionally eat no vegetable foods and get 65% of their calories from animal fat. They are extremely thin and have the lowest average cholesterol of any people ever studied. They are also notable for both their lack of cardiovascular disease and that their cholesterol levels go down with age ( unlike any other population).
