Just wanted to share my first century (100 mile) bicycle ride. I sure
feel
good that I finally did the century ride. It was a very cool nice
morning
today in the Pittsburgh area. I started at 7:00am and the fog didn't
lift
until about 9:00 or so. The ride was quite hilly and I must say my
legs are
quite tired, but I feel great. It was nice to finish and still have
more in
my tank at the end. I may push a bit harder now that I did the 100
once.
It took me 7 hours with two snack breaks and a lunch break. I felt
that was
pretty good considering I was being pretty conservative and the hills.

Had to share it with someone. My journey all started with low carb and
no
exercise, and when I got thinner I added some light jogging and so on.
My
first goal was to jog a mile and so on. Now I am riding 100 miles on my
bike. What is next? Iron man? Maybe in the future!

Enjoy,
Curt

Congrats Curt!! I haven't quite worked up to a century yet but doing
60-80 every saturday and 30-40 tuesday and thursday. The weight is
coming off quite well and I'm pleased.
All good medicine,
GREENFEATHER

Congratulations, Curt! I'm up to 67 miles on my bike ride, and I hope to
do the most I've ever ridden this weekend. Then, I plan on completing my
first ever century in September. I did 67 miles in five hours, so I'm
hoping to complete the century in about 7 hours.

That's right were I am now. I have two or three more organized rides

door.

I managed to pull a quad muscle on my metric century a couple of saturday's
ago. I got too competitive while going up a long hill. I wanted to out
ride some little guy...and did it, but I paid the price for it several hills
later when my leg started locking up on me. I was too ****ed. That ride
had 4000 ft of climbing, which is more than I normally do around here on
that length ride.

Well, that sucks! I've still not determined how much climbing I'm doing.
I took my GPS the last two weekends, and one weekend it said 4,700 feet of
climbing, and the other was over 1,000 feet less (and it should've been
more, as I rode longer). Plus, the GPS gives me different results at the
same point on my ride. I think the best estimate I'll get is by putting
points into a program I have that lists the elevation.

Just an FYI, but most GPS will not give accurate elevation readings. The
units themselves are not capable of accurate elevation readings. The other
issue is that if you aren't connected to at least 4 satellites, then it gets
even worse. Some of the higher end GPS units have a barometer on them for
elevation calculations.

Then, I'll have to map out my route on the GPS software, as the software
does have accurate elevation readings. It's just time consuming to do
this!

great job.
I hope to get some longer rides in. health problems caused me to not have
enough energy. I am working that out but now I have to worry about my butt. not
sure if I can find a saddle that will work for such long rides.
but I do get 20 miles a day in commuting 5 days a week.

Curt,

Congrats on such a great accomplishment. It feels amazing when you
hit that century mark, doesn't it? You should be extremely proud of
yourself. In less than 5 weeks, I take part in my 11th MS 150 City to
Shore Bike Ride here in New Jersey. It's an amazing experience with
over 5,000 cyclists and a heck of a lot of incredible volunteers that
make it possible to rais millions for those suffering from multiple
sclerosis.

Congrats again on your accomplishments.
