Getting girls to do sports
I know you are right. It is just the distorted mental vision of myself that
is holding me back... not reality. "Chris Braun" I can't really say what it's like at other gyms, but I'd be sort of surprised if anyone is paying much attention to other people's figures; they're probably mostly busy with what they're doing. I know lots of people at our gym quite well, since I'm there a lot and since I know many of the trainers. So I hear a lot of conversation about people in the gym. If I hear the guys saying anything negative about a woman in the gym, it's about the ones who come in looking like they think they're really hot and are trying to show off their bodies in inappropriate clothing. By contrast, there's one woman who comes in almost every day and who's always working very hard. She's very, very fat -- by far the heaviest person in the gym. I've never heard anyone speak of her with other than admiration for getting out there and doing it. And she doesn't hide behind anything; she'll be chugging up and down the main staircase with dumbbells in her hands. Chris |

Well, guess what: as soon as I was able to get out on my own I enjoyed all the things I didn't get at home. And This is a good point. My mom, while being overweight, did her best to serve healthy meals. She rarely bought any pop or candy. I could only have "sugar' cereals when I had a friend overnight. We did have icecream a couple nights a week, but mostly, the food was pretty healthy. I refused to eat anything I didn't like, so I just didn't get as much to eat those nights. I went to bed early many nights too. But the second I had a job and a paycheck, I was buying my own food. Thus started my 15 years with mountain dew. I was spending all my money on pop, candy, sugar cereal, and fried chicken. All the things I didn't get to have - those were the things I wanted. I don't blame her. She wad doing what she thought best, and I might still have gone that way if we had that stuff on more of a regular basis. But the truth is, you can do your best to set your kid up right, but they will still have to make their own decisions. Meghan & the Zoo Crew Equine and Pet Photography http://www.zoocrewphoto.com |

Well, a dozen anecdotal people doesn't make a study, but my observed correlation is that the people who have enough "get up and go" to leave the house to go to a friend's party are also likely to have enough "get up and go" to go workout. I don't know causation, but my guess is that the energy that they get from working out spills over into other areas of their lives. I think a lot of that though, is incentive. Invite me to a party, and I will be sick or too exhausted, but invite me to a trail ride, and I will be that at 7am even if I went to bed at 4am. I photograph horse shows, and I will often go to those with less than 4 hour sof sleep, maybe no sleep at all. I'm a severe night owl, but I will do what it takes to get to those shows. But ask me to work my regular job at 7am, and all you will see is a tired slug. And you can forget parties. I hate them, regardless of time of day. I can't think of a single party that I wanted to go to. I just don't like them. There's also an element - at least for me - of choosing to hang out with healthier friends. I've got a friend who smokes, is obese, in a bad marriage and lives in a bad neighborhood. I really like this woman and would love to be a positive part of her life, but she just brings me down too much when I hang out with her. I didn't invite her to this party. (I feel guilty about that and sincerely hope she never learns about it.) I do agree with this. My sister has a friend like this, and I fnd her depressing,. She sucks the energy out of a room, and I don't like to be around her. I think you have to realize that people don't give a rat's ass what *YOU* look like. They care about what *THEY* look like. If you look really bad that just makes them feel better about themselves. If you look really good it makes them feel bad about themselves. The point is, they're thinking about THEMSELVES, not you. No one is looking at you and thinking, "she's too gross to share my air." Very good point. Perhaps that is really what it is about. Me seeing them and feeling bad (and embarassed) about myself. I need to get over it. Meghan & the Zoo Crew Equine and Pet Photography http://www.zoocrewphoto.com |

At my gym the guys just seem to enjoy the eye candy. The weight room was knee deep in them today, honestly, there were about four girls trolling for dates slouching around in the weight room for some reason this evening. The most beautiful woman in the room was doing a fairly serious weight-lifting routine and didn't want to be bugged (and wasn't) but I was annoyed by the ones chatting on benches with no workout being done at all. That's why you need to go to the gym when I do. At 5:30 AM. The only people there (except for one guy, always) are there to exercise. No one shows off. We are NOT beautiful people. Hell, NO ONE is beautiful at 5:30 AM. |

That's exactly why I love Mission Cliffs, my gym. No bimbos, no muscleheads!!! Yea! But, I wonder if the guys agreed with you on the best-looking female. Bet they didn't. A lot of guys love bimbos. : ) By contrast, there's one woman who comes in almost every day and who's always working very hard. She's very, very fat -- by far the heaviest person in the gym. Today I saw two severely obese apples of women chatting in some lounge chairs, probably waiting for their kids to finish something. I was a bit appalled that they would actually be IN THE GYM and not use that time to workout. I would have only had admiration for them if they donned some spandex and got in line for a treadmill. Dally There are no obese people at my gym, there are a few overweight folks, most are in decent shape; outdoorsy types. I haven't met anyone there are wasn't even a little friendly. Martha |
