Default Working out !

I would like to be more active but I am dealing with several fractures at
the moment. However, to be honest, I really don't like exercising. I just
try to make an effort to do lots of walking as I go about my daily
activities, take the stairs, park away from the stores, etc. My therapy has
to count as my exercise for now since it takes up a couple of hours a day.
Sometimes I watch and do the exercises on Sit and Be Fit, a program on
several educational channels. I'm on the other side of 60 and just can't do
as much as I used to due to some medical conditions.

It has only been a few days, but so far this Flex Plan is the greatest
program I've ever found! It does take some extra work to keep track of the
points but is more than worth the effort involved. I usually have big
problems when I try to start a diet because I get hung up with all the
restrictions and new rules. This Flex Plan is not like a diet because I
actually get to control what I eat. This is the plan that makes the most
sense for the rest of my life.

My biggest problem is portion control but Flex allows a person to adjust
accordingly so that makes things easy for me. I generally eat the healthy
stuff, just too much of it.

Default Working out !

Last time I visited San Francisco, I met a member I had 2 years ago. She's
72 years old, and was a member on the meeting I lost weight at and afterward
came to my meeting.

When I joined, and talked about how I was active (really, 2h a day and more)
she would explain that she had a hip injury, and couldn't walk more than 10
minutes a day... She was very discouraged and overwhelmed and thought that
it would never work for her.

The group really got into helping her (she was soooooo sweet) and gave her
challenges (this week, 2 walks, each walks 11 minutes!!! ) I was around her
for almost 2 years and then moved away to North Bay...

When I met her a few weeks ago, she was looking awesome. She still
faithfully follow the food plan.... and now take a 30 minutes walk EVERY DAY
!!! She was at goal, a lifetime member and so happy to stop me on the street
to brag!

It's not about what you can't do, it's about what you CAN do. Start there,
and expand. That's all there is to it!

Wow! that's a lot of exercising.

I usually manage to get in three 1 hour water aerobic sessions in a week. I
did my first step class on Sunday and hope to join the intro classes on
wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. I just have to fit it into our
schedule somehow.

I bought the WW Walking kit Saturday at my meeting. I did the 20min and was
in the middle of the 10min one when the phone started ringing. 3 phone calls
later I was not in the mood but at least I did the 20 minute one. My 2 left
feet cooperated with me for once. g

I used to ice skate as a kid. Even took figure skating lessons for a few
years. I loved it. There are no skating rinks around here but when we move
to MA later this year I will have access to a rink about 20minutes from
home. That will be nice to get back into skating. It's only been about 40
years since I skated.

I love to work out, so to me it's not that much... usually I do about 30 to
45 minutes of resistance training 3-4 times a week... over this..

doing the most you can and making the effort is the real success here. if
you do what you are able to now then eventually it will increase, and if you
are going to PT, those sadists will help, Lee, who knows

exactly, when I started I weighed 251.6, could barely walk from the car to
the door of Wal-Mart, and if we were doing a week's worth of shopping then I
needed a wheelchair, partly because of my weight but also partly due to a
knee injury, now the main exercise I get is walking...

Tuesday, 60 min
Wednesday 60 minutes
Thursday 100 minutes... I am so pleased to feel better and to NOT be a
burden to DH,
