I NEED ADVICE
Hi,
am Stamo, and a need help/advice. Im really, really fat. Am only 12 and i weigh 17 (nearly 18) stone. I keep gaining weight all the time. All my friends are skinny, im fat. I think now im obese, and i hate it!! I eat a lot! Im afraid that i will get fatter. I need advice quick! Im so, so large! I should only be around 8 stone, but right now, im over 16 the now. I can hardley run either! I never agreed i was fat, but when i weighed myself, i was shocked that i was 16 stone. By the age of 12, i have now agreed i am not just fat, but obese. I checked the scales just there and now im 16 and a half stone. Please, someone give me advice! Sorry that this text is long. Please someone give me advice. At least im not the "fattest boy in the world, which weighs over 40 stone. I know that if i dont get any advice soon, i might get "bigger". So please, as soon as you can! (Other boys weigh 19 stone that people who i know) Stamo |

I NEED ADVICE
Rather than "eat less" as far as *volume* of food goes (don't starve
yourself - it won't work over the long-term) you should as a first step do the following: (1) List up all the foods you are eating. You will find that they are simply fattening foods! Instead of the foods with lots of fats and calories, substitute low-fat, low-calorie foods instead. For example, instead of a bag of fried potatoes (500 calories?) try a back of edamame (soy beans) instead (100 calories?) or an apple (60 calories). In other words, eat so you are not hungry, but eat foods that won't make you fat! (2) Do some more exercise. Are you doing as much exercise as your skinny friends? Go bike riding, or running, or swimming. Don't watch TV or sit in front of the computer so much! The key is just this - eat less calories (you can still eat as much *food* just food with less calories) and exercise more! doug |

This is where understanding nutrition, especially the calories/density/volume of foods comes in handy. I first learned this (and it still helps me when I reread it) in a book called 'The Picture Perfect Diet'. http://tinyurl.com/pk9tj In very good visual comparisons they show you the same amount of calories of various foods - hmmm would you like this eighth of a bagal or this whole opposite page of foods to eat? It opened my eyes to the fact that yes I could eat ALOT but still keep the calories in control to lose weight. Great book, check it out if you ever have some browsing time at a big bookstore, and his cookbook is a 'keeper' too. joanne |

I NEED ADVICE
Dear Stemo,
I'm so glad to meet you! I just got here myself! I think the others have given you some good advice, especially the one who advised you to eat apples! Another suggestion that really works well is to have one meal of canned beans every day. You can eat until you're full, and you can have catsup or picante sauce on the beans -- picante sauce is very good for you! Just by doing this, making sure you are really full so you won't want dessert, you should lose about a pound a week. And the exercise advice is very important too. Right now you probably can't walk very far or very fast. But a mile a day will boost your metabolism and therefore it will help you to lose weight. As for the pace, there's an easy rule: walk fast enough to be slightly out of breath, but not so fast you couldn't talk or sing. That is just the right speed. I hope you have a pleasant place to walk. Better yet, I hope you have a dog on a leash to take along! With the dog, you will not only have a companion, but will attract other people to talk to! Just be sure it's on leash at all times. Dear child, be brave! You can do this. Right now your metabolism is all messed up, and your emotions are out of order as well. Take it from a very old lady, you will feel better every single day. And, yes, do stay here and pour out your heart. Smiles, Sarah |

I NEED ADVICE
Hi guys,
Just went to the doctors there. They have confirmed i am really obese. I weigh 17 stone and have serious asthma. Though some good news. I can still shif the weight by eating healthy stuff and eat less. I can still run a bit, but for like 50 seconds (or less). Im continuing to follow the advice you've given me.Thanks guys. Im really confident about myself right now. Even though im really obese, a really huge big guy and have ashma, im still going to shif my weight. I know i could have a heart attack or later on in life, so i want to be in a healthy lifestyle. Talk to you later guys, Stemo |

I NEED ADVICE
Hi Stemo,
Welcome to the group! We're all here for the same reason as you -- we need to lose weight. There are a lot of people here who are going through the same situation as you, although you're probably the youngest of all of us. A good first step is to figure out what you're eating every day. Keep a diary of everything you eat and write down the calories. That helped me a LOT. Then set a goal for yourself, like 2000 calories a day or something like that. Keep writing down how much you eat and keep track. It takes a long time to lose weight, but its worth it. Set a goal of like .5 stone every month or something like that. If you lose five or six stone, say, over the next year, you'll feel really good about yourself. Keep in mind that you'll be getting taller, too, and that will make a lot of difference. It would be a good idea to set a goal for yourself, like "I want to lose 1/2 a stone or more every month". You really can't set a long-term goal for your weight because you're still growing. It takes a while to get with a way of eating that works for you. Be patient the first few months if you don't lose that 1/2 stone. After you get on-track with a good program, you'll continue to lose weight every month. Getting started is the hard part. Exercise is good, too. It only helps a little bit with the weight loss, but it helps in a lot of other ways too. It reduces depression. It makes you feel better about yourself. Its good for your health. Good for you, by the way, for realizing that you have a problem and doing something about it. I started getting fat twenty years ago and am just now doing something about it. You're way ahead of me! Keep up the good work. Seeing you want to do well helps me to stay motivated too. Keep posting to this group, too, it helps a lot. Mike "Stemo_2006" wrote in message oups.com...
