By the way, I went to my thyroid specialist today, he asked me if I have

He sent me for additional lab tests today to test other possible problems
with my thyroid or possible cushings disease. Anyways, I told him I was not
ready for something so drastic as bypass.

I'm surprised by this, but I recently heard of another endocrinologist
saying the same thing to an overweight patient. It seems
inappropriate to me.

My endocrinologist never even said anything to me about my weight when
I first started seeing him weighing around 275. His only comments on
my weight were compliments after my loss started showing noticeably.

Incidentally, going on thyroid meds (I have Hashimoto's Disease) did
not cause me to lose weight. I stayed as heavy as ever for the next
few years. I think it's likely, though, that when I did start
controlling what I ate, they helped make weight loss possible. It's
definitely worth making sure one's thyroid is in working order. (I
did feel immediate benefits in other areas -- more energy, better
skin, relief from frequent headaches, improved regularity, etc. --
it's just no magic weight loss pill.)

This echoes what Chris Braun used to write. I remember she was always

Ah yes, back in the days when I had co-workers :-). I do miss my
walks with Ted, though -- was just thinking about that while out
running this morning. I'm going to have to work on getting DH to do
some walking with me, at least when the weather cools off a bit. (DH
goes to the gym 3 times a week because he feels he must, but otherwise
has pretty much perfected the art of minimizing movement :-). )

Okay. I usually do very little weights, I was afraid of bulking up and
gaining muscle weight (everyone says muscle weighs more). I was given a
weight regime by a trainer back in December, prior to hurting my lower back.
Now that it is better, I'll give that workout a try again starting tomorrow,
and rotate cardio and weight days.

Don't worry -- a few pounds of muscle will help you lose way more than
a few pounds of fat, and you'll look a lot better with the muscle.

Just for the record, I lift as heavy as I can -- a lot more than most
women my age and size -- and I lost 130 pounds while doing this and
have kept it off for more than two years now.

Having met Chris I can tell you she doesn't have big bulky muscles from
the lifting. She looks great and well toned.

As you've already heard, this is a myth. Unless you are using some
seriously banned substances, you won't be bulking up no matter how hard you
try. Meanwhile I can tell you from experience that muscle weight is a good
weight to have. Anything that reduces your bodyfat percentage is a good
thing. It's not muscles that are crowding a suffocating your organs.

Good for you. I had an endocrinologist tell me that people with my
condition basically can't lose weight since the body won't respond as
expected.

He's wrong.

Do you plan to do this the rest of your life? Are you just trying to lose
a few pounds and then go back to your regular eating habits?
It seems a waste of time and money unless you have a plan to stick to from
now on.

My goal RIGHT NOW is to get weight off the fastest way possible because of
some physical and medical ailments I have. Then I will worry about
contining to lose weight, and keeping the weight off long term. I need help
right now and fast.

It sounds like you've been to a doctor about these ailments. What does
s/he recommend?

My husband is a pro at minimizing movement. He doesn't even like to walk
down to the mailbox at the end of the driveway. ( After our old dog
went to doggy heaven I bought the treadmill as I wont walk alone on these
lonely country roads.

The other important thing is to do serious

I provided this link in an earlier post; here it is again:
http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php
It's an outstanding site--make it part of you.

I'm not sure
if my bad knees can take it, but I'm willing to listen to your suggestions.

An intense weight workout in circuit fashion only takes 20-30 minutes,
and not every exercise involves the legs. Contrast that to hours of
non-stop aerobic work in which every form involves the legs. Which is
really more damaging?

Make an effort to learn the basics of weight training. That knowledge
will be like money in the bank for the rest of your active life. Train
hard
not long.

Did you have to have surgery after losing that much weight?
