Default Water retention/constipation

Okay, I know this is a distasteful subject but if there is any group
that can relate I figure it will be you folks. This is my 4th week on
WW. I am eating way more fiber than I ever have before. So you would
think I would not be having these problems but every 2 to 3 days I
feel "backed up". How long does it take for your body to regulate
itself? Laxatives do not work for me so I haven't bothered trying
that.

As far as the water goes, I have been trying to eliminate diet soft
drinks so I have been drinking lots of water. I also thought it would
also help with the first problem. It has not helped and last week at
WI my weight stayed the same even though my clothes are looser
everywhere except my stomach.

So now what should I do? Has anyone gone through this?

Try switching you fibres a bit: rather than wholemeal bread and pasta
(wheat fibre is quite hard), try oat bran or something. Eat oat bran
porridge for breakfast rather than wheat based breakfast cereals, oat
and whole rice cakes rather than bread, and keep up the vegetable and
water intake. Swapping water for soft drinks won't help much on this
front if you aren't yet drinking enough over all.

Add in some dries fruit! Figs, prunes, apricots... All very good at
this! Weigh and point your portions carefully.

The trouble with the gut is that without fibre it gets lazy, and it
needs to be re-educated like the rest of you. Soluble fibres like oats
can help by being gentler and less irritating on the gut.

Exercise also helps! I 'back up' (good description, that!) if I don't
get exercise regularly. Walking and swimming are good, but even a day
shifting tat in somebodies loft is better than nothing! All that
bending, stretching, heaving of boxes and suitcases full of stuff...

I swallow a tablespoon of whole flaxseed in the morning with a full glass of water. Wonderful results, and good for you too.

How long does it take the flaxseed to work? I work full-time so I
don't want it to take effect during my morning drive or at work.
Would I be able to take it in the evening instead?

This stuff has just caused me to be very regular, every morning. Never a surprise or anything. I got onto it because I have a friend who makes whole grain bread and adds it (a lot of it, whole) to her bread. I noticed that when I had a slice of her bread for breakfast things were different in a good way almost immediately. She is off and on about the baking so I took to swallowing a tablespoon of the seeds in the morning when I don't have bread.

Jeeze and I thought I wasn't drinking enough water. I hadn't really
been monitoring to that degree. Better pay attention, eh!

Thanks

we have all gone through it, some people get over it quickly and others do
not, some people get backed up when they quit drinks with caffeine so there
might be a bit longer time for you, the good news is that it does clear out
eventually and you have the clothes getting loser to hold on to until that
time, Lee, wishing you the best

I don't count it when I eat it whole because it does not digest. If ground, 1 point for 1 T./
