Default Water-loss?

I have a question for ya'll (been watching too much Dr. Phil..LOL):

The first two weeks of a weight loss process (I refuse to call it a diet)
people tend to lose weight fast - 3-4 lbs in a week, and later only 1-2 lbs
weekly. Why is that?

The most common answer I have heard is that in the beginning you are losing
water. But where is this water stored? And how come you dont continue to
lose water after that? How come you lose water when you start to eat less
and healthier?
Is it because the fat is holding onto water in the body and the body
releases water in the fatty tissues at first before starting to burn the
fat?

If anyone can explain, please do)

Interesting, although it only explains what happens when you low carb. But I
guess that anyone who starts eating less also will use up some of the stored
carbs.

My guess is that we retain water when we eat our normal diet of higher salt,
higher junk food. Starting to eat correctly and drinking more water helps
with the water retention.

interesting subject. Some of the water loss is your body coming out of
waterstarvation mode when you increase your water intake, and this alsohelps
to get rid of excess salt as well, Lee

Your body stores water if it does not get it on a regular basis. Once it
does then the body says... I can get rid of the stored water because I am
getting replenished on a regular basis. Once the body learns this then it
will not store water as much.
