... to get to weigh-in this week! My friend and I were far too busy
shopping! Neither of us were very well on program, and we decided that
THIS WEEK WE ARE REALLY GOING TO TRY HARD!

So Thursday we had a reasonable breakfast: porridge! While out shopping
we had a boring ordinary coffee with a splash of milk, lunch well in
points at our favourite lunch stop: she had a jacket spud with tuna mayo
and a goodly heap of salad, and I had their five salads platter. We
drank water! Mid afternoon we stopped for our usual break and had a
Starbuckets Grand bucket of skinny latte, and shared a fruit salad and a
slice of skinny carrot cake. We had another smaller semi-skimmed latte
later, and headed to Marks And Spencers for a zappable dinner: on of
their steamed chicken and veg dishes, with noodles, that we ate with
extra cabbage and followed with a skinny rhubarb yoghurt. Good day all
round. I had a total of 20.5 points, so used 2.5 of the three earned
walking round Bluewater!

Yesterday was as good:

Breakfast; porridge with a little milk and sugar for 3.5 points

Lunch; Mushroom soup for 2, 4 points of chiabata bread, and a child's
portion of ice cream for 1.5...

snacks were apples and grapes, for 2 points.

Dinner; salmon steamed on a bed of vegetables and bean shoots for 2.5, 2
points of sweet potatoes, and a pile of salad for zero points.

A total of 19 points, so one used out of the 4 earned heaving stuff
about and taking a load down to the dump! It was a busy day...

Lunch was the highlight: we went to a very nice cafe we know, and Bob
Geldoff was there with some of his daughters, having lunch. There
was I all covered in sweat and cobwebs, rubbing shoulders with the galm
people! The local townsfolk have an unwritten Law that is never
broken: We Do not Pester Bob!

Today I was also busy earning points for excessive housework! I've done
ok with the food, eating 18.5, earning another two, and I have 4.5
banked. Tomorrow morning I'll be swimming, earning a bit more.

Good old fashioned stuff, made the Scots way as granny taught me...

50g of porridge oats a pinch of salt, and 2.5 teacups of water: bring
through the boil after a good stir, and simmer for 5 mins. Serve *just*
floating in the milk of your choice, and with a teaspoon of Demerera
sugar sprinkled on.

I've tried the fancy flavoured stuff with added fruit and sweeteners and
mostly they are either yuk - waaaaaay too sweet, or taste like wallpaper
paste (and I do know what that tastes of, having done my share of
decorating!)

I sometimes use jumbo oats, and occasionally oat bran. You do it just
the same way, but you get a different texture.

If you prefer to use pinhead oatmeal, use the same amounts of oats and
water, but leave it to soak over night before cooking as before in the
morning. Oatmeal works better with larger volumes, as it needs to cook
for longer.

I don't do it in the microwave as it has a habit of exploding...

I use the microwave when I make it at work. An extra large bowl keeps
things from getting messy.

I make it in the micro but use a particular bowl with a lid to avoid
exploding, also this means I can get it started while doing other stuff and
it is ready when I am, but then I hate to cook at all so don't even do the
micro much, Lee

Takes no longer on top of the stove, but fails miserably to explode. I
also get on with other stuff in the five minutes it takes to cook.

Lives fairly close: I stayed over Thursday so we didn't have to rush
(well, no more than we do usually!). This is the lady that got me
started on WW. I stuck to it (mostly!) and lost the weight: she didn't.
and didn't. She's got lots of food issues, and tends to punish herself
with food. As she says, at least she now knows this is what she's
doing, so we limit the damage.

Like so many of us, she knows all the theory, has done it before, but
eats all the wrong things under stress, when she's worried, and if she
thinks she's in the wrong... And her two adult kids can be a right old
pain at times!

Ho hum... I do what I can. This week it was get up the loft ladder and
sort some of the crap they have dumped up there just any old how coz she
dare not go up and supervise unless she gets stuck.

She's also my swimming partner. Between us we limit the damage!

Not for me, the stove is my sworn enemy, Lee, who has lived her 14 years and
only DH has ever turned on the oven...
