The weather has turned cold again and there will be no biking this weekend. Today was the first bike ride of the season for the park's "Bike for the Health of It" program. It was 24F, with 15mph winds and snow and ice on the trails. We had a few people show up but called the ride off due to trail conditions. We determined it would be safer to walk across the parking lot to the restaurant for breakfast OK. I'll bite. I'm 54 years old and semi-retired. (Or is it "unemployed"?) It's been snowing here in southern Ontario for several days. The temperature is hovering around freezing. For three weeks it's been too muddy to take the dogs for a walk. I need to go to Sears and get myself an exercise bike, I think. I'm 5'4", 153 lbs, and would like to weigh 140. But 153 isn't too bad. I alternate between reading diet newsgroups and rec.food.cooking. (I need to read the diet newsgroups or else rec.food.cooking would prevail, and lord knows what I'd be eating. ) That's it. Jo Anne I'm in Toronto and have two dogs. We were walking a lot before the cold spell returned but it can't go on forever. I am in my seventh year of keeping my weight off. I am 5.5 and weigh 140. Since I am in my seventites losing more will make me look tired and drawn. I m currently tied for first place as the most fit adult in our family. Diva ASD since 1996 |

"A Ross" wrote in message ... I'm not sure in all my years hanging out at ASD that I've seen the traffic level this low... What can we do to liven things up around here? Have Caleb espouse the wonders of his 100 day diet? Have Mu give whip us into shape? Get Chung to give us nutrition and spiritual advice? Or can we all check in and give an update as to where we are in terms of our goals--whatever our goals may be? Shut Up! don't bring the idoits out. :-) I'm here.. just don't have much time to post. Weather is beautiful around here this time of year, so I spend as many hours enjoying the outdoors as possible. And, somewhat to what cubit said about usenet dieing... its not so much that as to not having access in all my locations any longer. In the old days if you have a service, you could access it from anywhere, but with all the spam issues out there, many ISPs that do offer usenet services limit it to people on their networks only. So, therefore my comcast service is only available when I'm on the comcast network (at home) so I can't access it when I'm at work or travelling. I find that I only get onto usenet when I'm at home, but I've come to a point in life where my evenings are so filled with other activities I just don't have time to check in but a couple times a week. As for an update on me... after gaining 15lbs over the last year or so, and struggling to get back on track the scale is FINALLY budging in a downward trend. I still have 10lbs to go before I'm back in my comfort zone. I let the stress of work get to me, and since the beginning of 2007 I've vowed to take the time for exercise. It is finally working. |

OK, let me blow my own trumpet, French horn, and tuba: Weight: Starting weight: 385, January 2006 Current weight: 249, April 7, 2007 Total loss 136 pounds Goal weight: 201, September 30, 2007 Total projected loss 184 pounds Scoliosis: Forward head posture before physical therapy: 5.5 inches. Forward head posture after 60 days of physical therapy: 2.5 inches Still working on remaining problems: knocked right knee, knocked left knee with only a partial extension, uneven shoulders, etc. Emphasis was on teaching me proper exercise form, stretches and exercises to bring stability to the upper back muscles, and build my core for bicycling. Bicycling: Numbers of miles ridden in November 2006: none - I didn't have a bike, and didn't know how to ride. Number of miles ridden in December 2006: 1.5 Number of miles ridden in March 2007: 155 Fastest speed: 14.4 MPH on a flat trail, 26.5 MPH on the downhill. Number of falls since going clipless two days ago: none, five near- falls, however. Number of modifications to the bike to have it fit me: three - raised handlebars, new saddle, new seatpost. Neil 385/249/201 http://historian2wheels.blogspot.com/index.html You're doing great in all areas! It's good to see the physical therapy is making improvements. Beverly I'm doing great in all areas aside from winning friends in the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia. I was mistreated on an "instructional" ride this Sunday - dropped by the instructor in a strange part of town - and my complaining about it hasn't gone down well with some. Read my blog for the details. |

Read my blog for the details.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I read that and I would be madder than hell if that happened to me. I can't imagine a ride leader dropping someone on an instructional ride. The park's "Bike for the Health of It" program could probably be classified as an instructional ride and we wouldn't dream of leaving someone. We have a leader and someone riding sweep to insure no one gets lost. Unfortunately in some cycling clubs you have those who don't remember that they too were once a beginner Hang in there! There are just as many people who do remember and I'm sure you'll find them. |
