You started way too high, then. The right starting dose is about 1/6
of the "final" dose, so you took three times too much. You may have
also chosen a high-strength product; it's important to note how much
ephedra is in one "dose" and adjust the starting dose accordingly.
You should be getting only a few mg per day to start, less if you
don't have low blood pressure (none if you have high blood pressure,
but the label should say that).

The stuff is *supposed* to be like speed. That's how it works.
Finding the right dose is an individual experiment.

I'm interested. How much? What's the brand and dosage level? (Sometimes
shipping costs more than I'm willing to pay!)

Debby, the reason I'm interested is that low doses of ephedrine, when
combined with caffeine, are useful in several ways in fat loss. They
work as a metabolism stimulator and seems to preferentially burn the kind
of fat on your stomach which is particularly bad for you. It's also an
appetite suppressant. Some people find it works better for them than
others.

But it is a stimulant and needs to be evaluated specifically for how your
body will handle it in context. I prefer to take it during tax season -
I'm a tax accountant - because my exercise level goes down and my need for
stimulants goes up. It's also a bit of an appetite suppressant.

I generally take 24 mg of ephedrine in the form of 3 8 mg tablets along
with 200 mg of caffeine in the form of one cup of coffee and 1/2 a 200 mg
caffeine tablet. I do this once in the morning and sometimes I'll do a
half dose in the early afternoon in lieue of reaching for some chocolate
or other over-the-counter-higher-calorie stimulant. I also have asthma
and ephedrine is truly useful as a bronchio-dilator. In fact, that's
where you'll find it on the shelves at the drugstore - look for broncaid
or primatene tablets. It has been used literally for centuries.

The press has become inflamatory about it in the past three or four years
but the number of deaths actually caused by ephedrine versus caused by
heart failure for whatever reason you were taking ephedrine is very hard
to tease out. Steve Belcher died, for example, when he was out of shape,
over-heated, dehydrated and taking 3x the recommended dose on an empty
stomach. More people die from aspirin than from ephedrine and a LOT more
people die from obesity than from ephedrine.

A good site for learning more about the actual research behind ephedrine
is www.drumlib.com.

I'm not worried about ephedrine-related death, I'm worried about
obesity-related death.

Wendy, but that's just me

I understand where you are coming from on this, me, with high BP, it would
be detrimental to my health.

Misusing it is bad for you, but also for a lot of other things, such
as salt substitute, and you can buy that by the pound at the
supermarket.

Ephedrine itself is not intrinsically bad for you. Properly used, it
can be safe and effective. Abusing *any* drug can be harmful.

It's just bad for me, I guess..)

I don't know about this. I took a Twinlab product that included
ephredrine, and the stuff was like speed: my heart was racing and
palpitating. I even took half the recommended dosage! I threw the bottle
away after that one incident. Plus, how many people die from using salt
substitute?

It affects different people differently. That's why it's important to be
fully aware of any health issues you may have before you take a stimulant.
A person with any heart or circulatory system problems would probably not
want to take a stimulant. And some people are just plain more sensitive -
my sister gets overwhelming jitters from a cup of coffee - I'd hate to see
her on thermadrene! Some people get only a mild buzz...

Just one of some I had was enough to help me all day.. didn't make me
jittery.. didn't bother my blood pressure.. sure did seem to help curb my
appetite too better than anything else I had ever tried. Kind of ticks me
off that I can't get it anymore. My dr knew I was taking it and wasn't that
happy about it but as long I kept up with my blood pressure monitoring and
he checked me over once a month while I was on it... everything was fine for
over a year.. then I ran out and now can't get it anymore.

But it was a plastic capsule. What do I do, break it apart and eat part of
it? If it's that bad, why isn't the capsule smaller? By "capsule" I mean
a plastic shell surrounding the chemicals inside, which means that the
chemicals are going everywhere once I open it.

Here's the problem -- the dose was too high, but I took HALF the
RECOMMENDED dose. (And that was half the daily dose.) How am I to know
that I should've taken 1/6 of that dose?

Thus, the problem with Ephedra: the marketers don't even know how bad it
is.

I have 2 unopened bottles of ephedrine that I would like to sell. Each
has I think 300 tablets. I bought them when I started dieting but
never took it and never opened the bottles (about 3-4 months
ago). They spent this time in a dry, dark, cool place.

I am sure that it's bad, that's why I am not taking it, but instead
trying to sell it.

I'm new here and, obviously, haven't hit it off to well with the masses.
However, aren't you one of the people who pops around calling others a
troll? (Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure you made such a
comment about me.)

And now you are here, saying what you just said. My G-D, what a person you
must be, no?

Suppose that I came across a big box of cigarettes. I would not want
to put that poison in my mouth, but I would like to sell it. Same
here.

What a horrid display of your character. Perhaps you would do well working
at a tobacco company, recruiting minors.

Some people want to take ephedrine and I thought I could relieve
myself of two bottles that I do not need, by selling it to them.

It is not too late to repent. Look at yourself, listen to what you are
saying, and think about how that reflects upon you as a person. Is that the
person you want to be? Hey, I'm ****y, but I wouldn't sell what I perceived
to be poison to the kids down the street.
