Dr. Michael Eades of current Protein Power fame, did have a book out back in
the late 70's early 80's that allowed 2 shakes and 1 meal. Think Optifast
era. He detailed how to make your own protein powder and such to include
adding much of the vitamins and minerals that protein powder and protein
powder diets were lacking back then.

So technically there is nothing wrong with a meal in a can or a liquid
breakfast. It does allow for more variety to the old standbys.

The drawback is 1) the can is expensive, 2) while dieting you are re
learning to eat and 3) sometimes too much liquid meals can cause runny
bowels.

I totally agree. I have a whey protein shake for breakfast every work day. I
used to have bacon and eggs, but they were too heavy first thing in the
morning.

The shake is quick and filling without leaving me feeling overfed or with a
greasy residue in my mouth! I have it around 8am and don't usually start to
get hungry again until at least 11.30am. For a while I tried adding a raw
egg, but I still got the hunger pangs at the same time, so I didn't bother
any longer.

I'm not using the shake as a quick weight loss trick, I happen to enjoy them
and they're very convenient for me. I don't believe it stops me from knowing
the correct way to eat. I don't consider it a 'meal replacement' - for me
it's a quick and light breakfast. I make it with mostly water and a little
cream because I like the taste better.
