Default Food & Exercise -- 9/9/2004

Not a very good day from the eating standpoint. I attended a workshop
that was badly organized, and they postponed lunch from the
originally-planned 11:30 to after 1:00 (after an 8:00 a.m. start). I
(along with everyone else) nibbled too much from the snack counter
during this long period. Then at lunch I mostly partook of the
dessert bar. (I knew they had a good one and had planned to splurge,
but it made me feel bloated and sluggish afterward, so I sort of
regretted it.) And of course no lunchtime walk due to the workshop --
and only very light cardio this evening at the gym.

Food:

7:00 (driving to workshop): 1 ready-to-drink chocolate protein shake;
1/2 oz. mixed nuts

8:00 -- 1:00 (meeting snack food): 1/4 cup melon; 1 piece banana
bread; 1/2 oz. mixed nuts; 2 sticks string cheese; 1 mini Slim Jim
sausage; a few veggies w/ ranch dressing dip

1:30 (conference center buffet): 1 cup chili w/ 1 oz. shredded cheese
& 1 tbsp sour cream; a few bites of Caesar salad; very small piece of
cheesecake; a few bites of creme brulee; small brownie w/ 1/2 scoop
ice cream & 1 tbsp caramel topping; 1/2 of a sort of hazelnut and
raspberry cookie bar

8:15 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices
melted f/f cheese

Totals: 2065 calories, 109g fat (47%), 166g carbs (32%), 107g protein
(21%) {What a lot of fat!}

5:00 -- Exercise: Olympic lifting, trivial cardio

Shoulder warmups

Power snatch: 1x6x15kg/33lbs; 2x5x20/44; 1x4x22.5/49.5; 2x3x25/55

Partial squats with bar held overhead with jerk grip (basically
shoulder-width) -- I found this very difficult and could not go as low
as Ahmed wanted. I don't have a lot of natural arch in my lower back,
which would help with this.: 2x5 w/ hollow bar; 2x5x15kg/33lbs;
2x5x20/44; 2x5x25/55

Clean pulls from below-knee rack: 1x5x40/88; 2x4x45/99; 2x3x50/110

Back squats: 1x5x15/33; 1x5x35/55; 2x3x45/99

Lower back stretches on Swiss ball

Treadmill: 20 minute walk at 3.0 mph (This is the easy day on my
cardio program -- 20 minutes of moderate exercise. But it doesn't
really mean this moderate; my heartbeat never even got into 3 digits.
However, I wanted to do an experiment to evaluate whether my new
freebie pedometer works. I found it counted my steps just fine (I
counted them explicitly for a minute (111 steps), then assumed that my
stride would be pretty constant for the whole time on the treadmill,
and indeed the pedometer gave me 2206 steps, very close to 20 times
the 1-minute count). However, it doesn't know what it's doing with
the mileage. It told me I'd walked .405 miles, when I'd walked
exactly 1. So I guess I'll just use it to count steps :-). )

Well, now you have enough data to get your stride length and can use that to
calculate your daily distance based on the pedometer steps - if you're into
that kind of thing.

DH made me walk exactly 1000 ft counting my steps to get my stride length
(26" walking/36" running).

Yes, though I think my stride length might be a bit longer when I walk
faster. I'm curious to check that out sometime.

Just out of interest, isn't shepherds pie with no potato just mince?
