Default SOmeone Please Help Iam soo Confused!! RE Sugar !

The atkins book is confusing me . First it says " No Sugar" yet he talks
about mayo (has sugar) smoked salmon(has sugar) even romaine lettuce(
sugar). why do some list sugar as an ingredient yet no grams on the food
label??? I have no sugar mayo, ketchup, but can someone shed some light on
this???
thanks
Jeff

I was going to disagree with you that mayo has sugar, but I looked at my jar
and even though it is 0 carbs, sugar is on the list. I assume there is such
a small amount in the mayo that it is negligible. You could make your own
and then you would be sure of no sugar. I do not see how smoked salmon
would have any sugar, after all it is only fish that has been smoked. As
far as romaine goes, I see that there is 1 carb in half a cup of shredded,
but all vegetables have a small amount of good carbs in them.

I'm sure you will get many more answers to your questions.

Nope, that's about it. It is *very* difficult to completely remove
carbs from the diet, and you really shouldn't try, as you'd be cutting
most healthy veggies right along with them. Don't worry about trace
sugars unless you have insulin/blood sugar issues or trace sugars
trigger binges.

You're reading labels and that great!! The hardest step is to begin to pick
foods based on labeled content and not impulse. Realize the labels are in a
standard format so under the main category of carbohydrate will be listed
Sugars and Fiber. Mayo should only be eggs and oil and therefore contain
zero grams of sugar, fiber and carbohydrate. However the food industry has
seen fit to contaminate some foods with needless sugar due to their
perception that we like sweet tasting food. If your particular mayo has been
so contaminated, look for another brand that has zero sugar listed under
total carbohydrates. If it's zero and you still see sugar as an ingredient,
don't worry, it's less than a gram.
