Today marks the beginning of week 4 and I'm down 24 pounds. Amazing. After
learning about lo-carb packaged foods here I've really avoided them. Even
the one's I'd already purchased. I'm staying close to induction/phase 1. I'm
totally terrified that if I stray too far I'll either stop losing or regain.
I did buy a loaf of Orowheat LC ww bread and had 1 slice on Sunday with
breakfast. It was a nice treat.
Does anyone use fiber in the form of pills or capsules? I know the best way
is to eat flax or whatever. I just want something I can do without much
thinking about it right now. If I could take them with my other meds it'd be
easy, if they work. The Cubster uses some stuff he mixes up and some kind of
tea. Natural products he buys from some nutritionals website. I'm not as
disciplined as he is. It's got to be easy.

Silly me - I buy the Russell Stovers Mint Patties and keep them locked away
for a "special need" - four mint patties and it's a done deal by the next
morning, and it's a nice treat instead of a yucky ordeal.
I know that not loading up on sugar alcohols is important, especially if
they provoke a stall, but they haven't ever bothered me in the stall
department. I just can't hack psyllium husks and it's not always convenient
to cook something with my special blend of breading ingredients.

This breading combination works great for things like chicken, or as a
filler for meatloaf. Not 100% lowest carb possible, but much better than
bread crumbs or crushed crackers.

Everything is "throw it in and have a look at it" measurements. I
crush/combine everything by either rolling pin or shaking in a large zip
lock baggie (I keep thinking I'll eventually get a food processor, but this
will have to do for now):

Large bag of plain pork rinds - crushed as fine as possible - will
eventually take the average flake size of a rolled oat or smaller
cup or two of flaxseed meal
1/2 cup or so of oat flour or Vital Gluten Wheat flour
Parsley flakes til it looks right
tablespoon or so of Celery Flakes
dash of onion powder
dash of garlic powder
Old Bay seasoning - just a little
Salt & Pepper - just a little, as I generally add more when I'm cooking

Makes an absolutely fantastic breading for fried chicken or pork chops and
works very well in a meat loaf. Keeps things moist and savory.

Thanks for not leaving the group - I enjoy your posts immensely.

and Congratulations on THREE weeks! Awesome work!

Bear, I just wanted to mention, after reading your post and seeing you lost
a huge 24 pounds in only 3 weeks (that is very fast!). Please don't expect
that pace the whole time. Prepare yourself for a week or even two with
little loss if any. It is just part of the journey and I hate to see people
get used to the first few week pace. You did prove one thing by losing that
fast. You are someone that can lose easily and there is no reason for you
to be over weight ever according to Atkins book. I see no problem with
eating a piece of LC bread for breakfast. If you are going to do that,
breakfast is the best meal to do it.

I hope you are not looking at this as a crash diet. It does get slower and
try to enjoy the diet. This is what I have found anyway. My last pounds
took months to lose. I do confess the holidays played a part in that
situation, but it takes some time. I make the diet fun by making different
foods at home. It is kind of fun. I am going to post a sausage recipe I
just made. It is quite good, well at least I think so.

I just want to see you make your weight goal, so I felt like I wanted to say
something. Hope you don't mind.
Curt

My experience is that I'll stop losing...I've found it hard to gain weight
if I stay LC...but if I don't, I can gain easily...(mainly because of
increased desire to eat)...even the LC junk food doesn't cause weight gain
for me (not saying it won't for others, but you're a big fella like me so
your results maybe similar to mine)

Sure.....I take 4 per day....just added protection in case you don't get
enough...always build up on fiber and get plenty of fluids while taking the
supplements...

I know the

sure...of course, you can eat broccoli on a regular basis....you won't have
to think about that either

That's what I do...every morning, before leaving...I do vit/fiber row on top
of the fridge.

It ought to be easy....if you're gonna do it...

Bear, you're doing fantastic; congratulations and keep up the good work.
You've been a great addition to ASDLC.

BTW. if you experience a sudden "stall" or slowdown in your weight loss
about now, don't worry. It's very common to have a mini plateau a few weeks
into eating low-carb while your body "catches up" with the weight loss.
When I went back to 20 g carbs/day starting December 15th, I lost about the
same amount of weight in the first month as you have (26 pounds). Then
nothing for two weeks, now the weight loss has recommenced but at a more
realistice rate; about 1 to 2 pounds per week. (I've lost 35 pounds now
since 12/15/03)

If you're doing Atkins, at this point you're SUPPOSED to increase
carbs, slowly, until you stop losing, and write that number down.
Then reduce carbs 5-10g and keep it there long-term.

If you lose weight too fast, your body could start compensating, and
you don't want that either.

Hi Bear, I've used the sugar free Metamucil, that orange flavored stuff.
It's not bad. Other times I've made a glass of SF Tang and put the fiber
into it.I think I have Konsyl (sp?) for when the Metamucil is gone. You've
done so well so far and I understand that fear which keeps you away from
bread. I keep a loaf of lc bread in the freezer so I don't 'have' to use it
or watch it go stale. It makes pretty good French toast, if you let it soak
long enough, and it's a little dried out, it will almost soak up 2 eggs.
The bread was what made me lose control once before so I'm much more careful
now.
Good Luck,
Jo... who also has untouched LC pre-packaged stuff in the back of the
closet.

Wow 24 lbs in 3 weeks! That's 8 lbs a WEEK! Congratulations!

I tend to eat a version of flaxmeal cereal about 3-4 times a week. I use
supplements occasionally if I have a day where I haven't eaten the cereal or what
I feel is enough fiber for the day. I use Fibercon caplets just because I have
them and they are easy. I don't take them along with medications or vitamins,
though, because I suspect the fiber would impair the absorption of the other
pills. I tend to take it on a relatively empty stomach since I will then feel
fuller and it can stave off hunger for a while. Note that I do NOT use it AS an
appetite suppressant; I'm just saying it happens to be useful in timing it that
way.

Everyone's afraid, Bear. Courage isn't lack of fear. Courage
is having fear but acting anyways. Grit those long teeth and
follow the entire plan. It works better than staying low.
Step out in faith!

I just eat more veggies. Raw ones have more fiber.
