Hi from a new member, sort of
Hello Everyone,
I don't exactly feel like a new member because I've been reading asd for years. You all (The Historian, Chris B, determined, Beverly, Nunya B., Willow, doug, Douglas, Patricia, Her Subj., Del, the Queen, Matty, to name a few) have been motivating and encouraging and helping me meet my weight and fitness goals. I lost 25 pounds about 5 years ago through diet and exercise and since then have been maintaining fairly well. I'm 5' 5", 136 pounds (about 6 pounds more than I like to be), 50ish but feel much younger than I thought 50ish would be. I count calories, watch portion size and log my food and activities in Fitday. I love to cook, and try to cook meals that are healthy but great. Although I don't use "recipes" very often, I've been using the Weigh****chers New Complete Cookbook for inspiration lately. I exercise by going regularly to Curves (4 years), walking as much as possible all day every day and lifting weights (not like Chris B. - I lift much smaller weights!). I realize that Curves doesn't give me a very intense workout, but it has really helped with flexibility and strength. I used to bike and cross-country ski but back surgery some time ago has precluded those activities. I work in a four-story building with my office on a lower level, and I try to use the stairs exclusively (I'm up and down to every floor throughout the day). I usually park as far as possible from wherever I am going to get in as much extra activity as I can. I live in the frozen north (WI) and don't mind the cold that much, but hate walking outside when it's icy, so this isn't the greatest time year for me, or for our dog Eddie - she misses our long walks. Ok - that's more than enough about me. Here's a dish you might enjoy: Broccoli and Pasta with Capers Cook fresh, trimmed broccoli stalks in boiling, salted water for a few minutes, then add broccoli florets and some pasta (rigatoni is good). While pasta and broccoli cook, sauté garlic in a little bit of olive oil along with some crushed red pepper and capers. When pasta and broccoli are tender, drain and toss with garlic/red pepper/caper mixture. Grate some Romano cheese (optional) over all and enjoy. I'm open to advice, tips and new ideas. I hope to make a contribution to this group. My best to everyone. Take care, eddiegirl 136/130 |

Hi, eddiegirl!
I feel so honored to have been cited in your posting. I say that because I often feel like an on again/off again member. ASD and its members have been there for me through thick and thin in regard to my issues with compulsive overeating, overexercising, and, finally, being mentally and physically healthy again. I'm sure you've found and will continue to find great support in this forum. HS eddiegirl wrote: Hello Everyone, I don't exactly feel like a new member because I've been reading asd for years. We had quite a blizzard and very cold temps a week ago, but now have had a few days of 40+ degree weather, so our snow is almost gone and we're enjoying the balmy (for us) weather. -- Take care, eddiegirl 136/130 |
