Default Opinions on Atkins' supplements

I was wondering what the opinion of the Atkins' supplements are? I just got
into that chapter last night and it sounded interesting. I checked their
web site and there are quite a few formulas to choose from. Wondering if
anyone here uses them and if they seem to do any good. I was especially
interested in the blood pressure lowing formula. Not that I have high blood
pressure but I have measured higher on occasion. What do you guys think?

Default Opinions on Atkins' supplements

Dot:

I had the same concern when I started, and talked to my doctor about it. She
is VERY much in favor of the Atkins diet, having lost quite a few pounds on
it herself! She told me a few things of interest. First, she told me I just
needed to take a good multiple-vitamin each day. I have always had problems
with leg cramps, and she told me to add calcium and potassium if I needed.

Also of interest, she told me to make sure and add fiber because the only
problem with the diet she has seen in her patients and in her research of
the diet before she went on it, was that Atkins-folks have a higher
occurence of polyps and the additional fiber can help prevent that. I do the
psyllium husks -- 1/2 tbsp every other day -- Dr. Atkins talks about. Tastes
terrible, but it doesn't have to taste good to work

She also said that 95% of her patients that have done the Atkins diet have
showed a dramatic decrease in cholesterol and in blood pressure, and that
she was fascinated to find that they maintained this even if they went off
the diet! I have had higher-than-my-normal blood pressure for the past year,
and she said she fully expects to see it go down quickly.

Hope this helps,
Joan J

According to Atkins' widow, they sold off Atkins Nutritionals.
The products were always grossly overpriced, but they have since added
a great deal of utter nonsense and quackery, such as "detox" products.

Don't waste your money.

He was asking about vitamins and not food. Paying attention yet?

I just started trying them to se if they are beneficial at all. I
don't like the fact that they are designed to be taken three times a
day--a hassle to me. SOme are twice a day, some are one hour before
you eat. I haven't been on them long enough to see any difference but
I can tell you they taste terrible. Some multivitamin have little
taste some are downright gagging.

Default Opinions on Atkins' supplements

I've used Atkins Basic Three since I started Atkins. I also use the fish oil
and potassium/magnesium, but I buy the generic brand of these. The first month
I was doing Atkins, I also took Excel, but didn't notice any difference when I
stopped taking it as far as weight loss. Took chromium for a month as well and
figured that if I had been depleted...that was probably enough to catch me up.

I really like the combination that I take and do notice a big difference if I
let myself run out and go without for a few days.

I'm sure a regular sugar free multivitamin would be fine... I just prefer to
use the Atkins brand on the multivitamin though because it is in the amounts he
recommended. He did a lot of research on vitanutrients (still haven't bought
Dr. A's Vitanutrient Solutions but have been meaning to) and I just feel
comfortable with it.
