Do you think the DMV would let me get a new license if I asked? My
picture looks so little like me that I am getting questions whenever I
use it as an ID. And it doesn't expire until 2008!

I suppose I could just pretend I lost it...

I don't see why they wouldn't re-issue one if you say you lost it.

Our company keeps the pictures on file and re-issues our badges with the old
pictures. Some of the people have changed so much in the past few years
it's hard to recognize them. Mine was taken when I was near my all time
high weight (1996) and had blonde hair. Now that I'm 30 some pounds
lighter and have light brown hair it's hard to tell it's me. Some day maybe
they'll decide to take current pics.

I know in my state I can just go in and ask for a new one. I haven't done
so because it's an inconvenient PITA to deal with the DOT. It also may have
gotten me out of a ticket as the cop had to be convinced that it was really
my license and he was so impressed I think it might be why he let me go

If you want to deal with DMV Hell, you could say you lost it. I just got my
new license and I don't want to go through that for a long, long, long
time....having my nail pulled out would be more pleasurable.

I bet they would issue you a replacement if you tell them you lost it. I
don't know the policy of your DMV. They may or may not require that you
take a new picture. I would call them and ask.

I am waiting to get mine redone in May. It doesn't expire until 2008
either... but I am getting PRK in May. I want that restriction off, a new
picture, my new address from moving last year and my new last name. 4 birds
with 1 stone!

It depends on where the DMV is. In my town, it can take 2-3 hours. In a
neighboring town, it can take 30 mins. Also, there is a mobile DMV mobile
home that travels around town to local businesses. I had mine renewed that
way last year. It was wild.

Chris - having spent 3 hours in the DMV replacing a lost license, I would
suggest that you go to the DMV web site and see if there is any place you
can pose this question to them. It is so time consuming to replace a lost
one, they just might reissue one with a new picture for a lot less time
invested since you could present a current one. Um....I've seen your
picture and it truly does not look at all like you!!

Dealing with the DMV around here is fairly painless. I only encounter
problems when I wait until the last couple days of the month to renew
license plates or drivers license. I've even gone a few days into the next
month and hoped the SHP doesn't notice I don't have a new sticker on the
autog
