Hi all, I am 24 years old and 174 pounds in weight. I want to loose at
least 30 pounds. So I am looking for a good diet. There are so many
diets but I don't know which will work better. My choices are south
beach diet, low carb, protein, and more. But which one is better which
one will make me lose a lot of weight? If you have another diet that
worked for you please list it down. And if any web or book is there
that will tell me about this diet then please post it. Thank you.

Losing thirty pounds is easy, especially for a 24 year-old. When
you're that young, you probably don't even need a "diet" (unless
you're an elite athlete trying for every little edge over your
opponents you might get). Just work out, hard and frequent (well, not
too hard or too frequent, of course -- your body [and not your ego]
will tell you the difference, in time).

If you absolutely will not exercise for some reason, well, okay, do a
diet, which really is very simple: have six or seven very small meals
a day, three or four of them just protein shakes, spaced two to three
hours apart. Your non-liquid meals, of which you should have at least
one or two a day, should be fresh whole foods that cover all the
basics: a bit of low-glycemic carbs, more of animal proteins, and lots
and lots of vegetables. Again, remember to keep your portions small.
Follow these general guidelines for three months and you'll have lost
thirty pounds, no sweat. (Naturally, no cheating -- weekend binges,
alcohol, etc.)

For faster weight loss (assuming you have no medical problems or
"genetic issues" and the like), tinker with those variables to taste
-- for example, do only one "real meal" every other day, with the
majority of your calories from protein shakes and vegetable juices.
Basically, some variant of "the hacker's diet," "the physicist's
diet," "the velocity diet"....

Low-glycemic carbs ARE vegetables.

Well, that would work, but there is no need to drink protein drinks or
any of those things. Lots of ways to get the correct calories and
nutrition in a day. What works for one will not work for another too.
You are right about one thing certainly, and that is that she must
limit the calories to lose weight. I assume what you are recommending
worked well for you, so you feel confident recommending it. On the
other hand, I lost 95 pounds and kept it off and did none of those
things. Lots of ways to lose weight and probably do it safely and in a
healthy manner. I never drink calories for one, because that is too
easy of a way to consume calories and for many of us, we feel like we
haven't "eaten" anything. dkw

Yes, I know, I had in mind "grains" when I distinguished "carbs" from
"vegetables."

Well, the OP claimed not to have time even to eat, so I guess a shake
will have to suffice.

Yeah, I used to just exercise and lose weight within two weeks. Can't
do that now...advancing age, I suppose.

Lots of ways to lose weight and probably do it safely and in a
healthy manner. I never drink calories for one, because that is too
easy of a way to consume calories and for many of us, we feel like we

That's why the OP reported being hungry despite the protein shakes,
and that's why I'd recommended taking fish oil or flaxseed oil supps,
etc., for that "full feeling" which comes with fats.

Losing weight is an interesting hobby, actually...I'm currently only
having one or two "real meals" a day myself, the rest of my intake
being protein shakes and veggies, and I'm losing weight slowly...thing
is, I *feel* like I'm losing weight a lot faster than I actually
am...likely due to my imagination, to be sure, but nonetheless I feel
lighter and even more energetic, etc. Why, I just got back from the
gym a couple of hours ago and it was a great workout despite my not
having had a real meal all day today! I didn't lose strength or
anything -- and I didn't even take any creatine before the workout!

Then again, I didn't commute to work by bicycle on account of the
rain, so maybe that explains things...cardio seems to really drain me.

Sure, if you're just the average sedentary type. Anyone with a
decently serious athletic lifestyle will probably want to be more
intelligently selective about long-term calorie restriction.
