someone help!
I have been on atkins since jan 2003. Have lost 60 lbs. BUT for 2 months I
haven't been able to go into ketosis, no matter how good I am. Why? And can I still loose wait if Im not in ketosis. thanks -- http://profiles.yahoo.com/oppiesnuffles |

And why does it matter if you've lost 60 pounds? Many people here don't even bother to use ketostix, because so many things can affect the color. And can I still loose wait if Im not in ketosis. Yes, you can still LOSE WEIGHT without ketosis. But obviously you're doing something very right if you've lost 60 pounds. Stop worrying and keep on with your successful weight loss plan! I was concerned at first, but if the weight is dropping, don't worry...be happy! GT |

Yes, you can still lose weight without registering ketosis on the sticks. (Conversely, you can also be in ketosis and not lose weight, if you eat too much fat. Ketosticks can't tell the difference between burning dietary fats and bodyfat.) Not registering on the ketosticks (assuming you are not miscounting your carbs) might be one or more of: Your ketosticks may have "died", especially if you're keeping them in the bathroom. The warm, moist air makes them expire more quickly. Or you may be using your ketones as fuel, and don't have enough left to measure in your urine, especially if you're getting a lot of exercise. Or you may be drinking plenty of fluids, so your urine is too dilute to register. Or you're testing at the wrong time of day. It's normal to not excrete enough to measure at various times of the day.
