Default Curves - Bad News

I found the following on the alt.gossip.celebrities ng:

-- Just so you know: Gary Heavin, the founder of the Waco, Texas-based
chain of exercise studios called Curves, is a heavy contributor to
several organizations allied with Operation Save America, the rather
more muscular successor to Operation Rescue, the anti-choice group.

The organizations he funds are spreading the lie that abortions lead
to an increased risk of breast cancer. Planned Parenthood says its
operations in Texas are being threatened by Heavin-funded clinics
based on the old therapeutic model "you must carry your child to
term."

In an article in Christianity Today, Heavin expressed pride in his
involvement with anti-choice groups, to which he donates 10 percent of
Curves' profits. You may do with this information what you will.

People can decide where to exercise and lose weight. They may choose to
spend those dollars elsewhere if they know this about Curves. Of course,
others may choose to go there because of this. I think it has a lot to do
with where you choose to exercise. I know I will NEVER be going there now.
I considered it for when my current gym membership expires, but no way --
not now.

Curves and losing fat?

Peter,

It has everything to do with supporting a group that promotes anti-choice
for women. I for one wouldn't go to a "Curves" for anything. I would
rather work out at home or go to a different Gym. The thought of MY money
going to support the fanatics that shoot doctors and kill nurses and would
send women back to a hell of being slaves to their own biological processes
makes me sick.

You young ones may not remember what it was like in the days before abortion
was legal, but I REMEMBER! I remember the back alley abortionists and the
deaths and the women who were made infertile from sloppy and unsterilized
equipment and lack of access to safe recourse.

I remember the woman who had a solution of Lysol and Lux soap squirted into
her uterus which killed the fetus but also burnt and scarred the interior of
her womb so badly she could never conceive again.

I remember that there were women who used to shove a knitting needle or a
bent coat hanger up into their uterus to pierce the wall and cause it to
abort. This often resulted in horrible infection and often death.

I remember the rich girls who got pregnant and flew to the islands for a
safe abortion. The poor were left to the back alley abortionists.

I remember that abortionists were often women trying to help other women
without access to medical knowledge, drugs, tools and they resorted to
whatever they could and they often went to jail for long terms for it.

I remember that back in the days before abortion was legal, attitudes were
HORRIBLE and women who became pregnant were shamed, ridiculed, called
whores, forced to marry unwisely, forced to give up their babies when they
didn't want to.

NO woman in their right mind would want to go back to those days.

I too believe that a human life begins at conception, but I also believe
that it is a woman's right to decide if she is ready to carry another being
to full term.

Desperate women will do ANYTHING, legal or illegal to end a pregnancy if
they are so inclined. They must be protected and their health and safety
should be assured by safe and legal recourse!!!!!

Whether it's bad news or not is a matter of one's perspective. You
are assuming 100% of the people here have your same point of view.

... You may do with this information what you will.

How kind of you to allow others to make up their own mind! I'm
sure that will be appreciated

Actually, I knew some people would not agree with me. I am not stupid -- I
have met anti-choicers before, you know. However, I wanted a snazzy subject
line that people would be likely to read. It DID reflect my opinion, that's
true, but I am not optimistic enough to believe that everyone would share my
support of women's rights.

Hmmmm. Nice spin there. "Anti-choicers" and "women's
rights." How do you feel about father's rights, unborn
babies rights, and partial-birth abortions?
