Besides aerobics, what one exercise burns the most calories in LEAST amount

Preferably a floor exercise... or does walking (treadmill) burn more than
any floor exercise does?

It is important to keep in mind that walking is aerobic activity.
Regardless, I know you mean by aerobics. I believe that there are a
number of activities that burn calories more efficiently than aerobics
in general. The first few that come to mind are elliptical machines,
hill hiking, and running.

I have time for about 30-40 minutes of exercise per day whether walking at
lunch or on my treadmill at night. I work 10+ hour days, then I have
committee meetings after work and travel and business dinners. I just do
not have time on a regular basis for much exercise in quantity as you
suggest. I surely have no time for 1-1.5 hours of walking, there is just no
way. That is why I asked what I could accomplish a 30-40 min timespan that
would be most beneficial to burn calories.

well, if that's your attitude - then you are destine to remain fat.

I disagree, and find your comments non-constructive.

Cammie, no disrespect meant.. but JayJay is not a troll. In fact she is

adamant folks who post here about getting off your duff and taking TIME

advice.

Yet, in this case, JayJay hit a foul ball.

I'm a little floored, quite frankly, by the reaction of some of the
folks in this newsgroup to your message, and sorry it's taken me two
days to chime in myself with my outrage. The quibbling over 20
minutes vs. 45 minutes vs. an hour is unprecedented.

True, and true, but I didn't see Cammie's massive transgression that
apparently you and others perceived.

is exercise. We plan that as our PA-for-the-day every other Saturday.

It may burn calories but I would not consider it exercise to the extent that
I get at the gym. I don't think laundry is nearly as good a work out as
heavy lifting or a hard hour of spinning.

It depends on your laundry habits. When all my kids lived at home, if I had
to haul it all to the basement, that meant 4-5 trips up and down 2 flights
of steps with 40 pound baskets. It sure felt like exercise to me. When we
had a clothes line, hauling wet clothes to the back yard and then bending
and lifting to hang it up also felt very much like exercise. Of course I do
much less now with only one still at home (who does her own laundry
usually), but the rest of the housework can be a real workout.

On days I do heavy housework such as deep cleaning, moving furniture, doing
the baseboards, scrubbing the floors on my hands and knees, I get much more
of a workout that if I did my regular 25-30 minutes on the stepper. If I've
spent 5 hours doing serious cleaning, you can bet I won't worry about not
hitting the stepper that day. Spending 5 hours in the yard raking,
trimming, hauling etc. is also a great workout.

Indeed each person can consider things as they wish.

Your body, however, will consider it exercise. grin

I don't think laundry is nearly as good a work out as
heavy lifting or a hard hour of spinning.

Yet two hours of vacuuming, mopping and cleaning is a better work-out
than two hours of golf.
