Default Leg cramps while low-carbing.

Hi All,
What do you do when your calf and thigh muscles cramp up like a
super tight fist while your sleeping? It is very painful. I do
work-out daily and I believe the cramps are from a lack of potassium.
While I am against potassium tablets and bannana's are high in carbs,
what remedy is there to this painful problem? amy help would be
greatly appreciated!

Happy Holidays,
Tony

why would you be against potassium supplements?
they do the trick for me......................

eating LC is such a powerful diuretic, and those minerals need to be
replaced.

If the OP is drinking enough water to begin with, adding more would be
counterproductive.

Using some Morton Lite salt and choosing foods high in potassium would be
the first things to try.
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcom...k/wt_rank.html
The USDA site has the option of choosing reports by nutrient content.
Obviously not everything is low carb but you can easily scroll through the
list to find the highest potassium containing low carb foods.

Just don't go overboard. Excess potassium is just as bad, if not worse, for
your health than an insufficient amount.
You might also want to start taking a calcium/magnesium supplement if your
multivitamin doesn't give you enough.

I'll bet this has nothing to do with the diet.

See a doctor. Duh.

it would be quite difficult to EXCEED the RDA of potassium, even
with over the counter supplements.
