Default Carbs and depression?

Well, I have suffered from depression off and on, and I must say I
am feeling very good on this WOE. I don't think it is totally
coincidental, although part of it may be that I am actually doing
something about my weight.

Funny, I've been contemplating this deeply. I think its a which came
first the chicken or the egg scenario. - - 1) A major symptom of
depression is a feeling of fatigue, exhaustion and low energy. 2)
When you're fatigued, exhausted and don't have much energy you feel
depressed. All in all, lo-carbing (or high proteining if you want to
look at the flip side) has given me a lot of extra energy. - - I have
had some weeks where I had to deal with major life stress and I'd lie
if I didn't see at some points it did get to me... but since being on
Atkins the totally meaningless and decapacitating depressive episodes
I used to get have virtually vanished... Stable blood sugar ?
Excess energy ? Who knows... who cares... I feel great... - - Also,
with the extra energy I have a get out and exercise more, and my own
experience has been, when you're depressed, the more inactive you are,
the worse it gets. Usually if you can just get past the front door
(unless its really severe) it'll let up a bit... - - All in all, I've
also felt a correlation between my moods and carbohydtrate levels.

You make some good points! And when you mentioned the chicken and
egg thing, I was thinking that being overweight and being
depressed ar sort-of chicken and eggy. One could be overweight in
part due to depression; and when one is overweight, one might be
depressed about that (whether overtly or not)....
