Default South Beach Diet Online

First sorry if this posts multiple times, i'm having problems with my OE

The following is my experience as it occured with www.southbeachdiet.com. I
am not posting this to be hurtful or insulting to any persons. This a story
as to what has occured with me. If you find it personally offensive when
people tell their stories of events with customer service, then please do
not read this message.

Several weeks ago I decided to give the southbeach diet a try. After
finding the website I thought it would be easier for me to pay the 34.95 +
7.00 a month fee to have access to experts than it would be for me to read
the book. I signed up, and started reading about the program. A bit
background on me, I am an athlete and workout for more than an hour every
day. So after 2 or 3 days of very low carbs I started to get very dizzy and
eventually passed out.

At this point I decided I would ask if it is allowed to add low glycemic
carbs in to my diet since my amoutn of exercise was not working with the
prescribed plan. I went off the diet. 2 or 3 days pass and no response. I
post a follow up, asking again for advice, 4 or 5 days pass, i post again,
no response. A grand total of 11 days pass before I finally recieved a
response(in the form of a link to another userse question). By now my 7 day
trial period was over and I would be unable to received my partial
refund(they do not give full refunds). I felt that the website had failed
me and decided to call to request a refund.

As a bit of a background www.southbeachdiet.com is run by www.agoramedia.com
who also runs http://www.myoptimumhealthplan.com/ ,
http://www.leftbehindprophecy.com and http://www.searchforjesus.com.

call 1:
I recieved the phone number from my credit card bill and called to ask for a
refund. The customer service repersenative explained politely to me that it
is not in their policy to give refunds after 7 days. I explained that I was
unable to have a trial period during those 7 days because I was waiting for
my question to be answered. He explained to me again that he couldnt not
give a refund. I then asked to speak to a manager. A manager was
unavailable and I was told one would call me back within the hour.

call 2:
The hour and the day ended and I did not recieve a call bak. I phoned
customer service and recieved a recording that no one was able to make it to
the telephone and that they have no voice mail and i should try back later.

call 3:
I recieved the same customer service rep that I had recieved the day before,
and ask to speak to a manager about my refund. The gentleman on the phone
muffled the phone and i heard some whispering. At this point someone who I
am guessing was a manager picks up the phone and the following paraphased
conversation occured: No hello, no how may i help you, it started like this:

her: "Your not going to get your money back"
me: "Hi there my name is xxxxt and I'm calling to request a refund, I feel
that" interupted
her: "i said your not getting your money back" her voice started to boil a
bit
me: "It took around 2 weeks for me to recieve a response from the
nutrionalist and i was n"interupted
her: "we have 2 nutionists and 45,000 memebers we can not be expected to.."
this time i interupt hershes fuming now
me: "If I do note recieve a refund I will post on the boards what has
happened to me and I don't th"interupted
her: "DON'T YOU INTERRUPT ME YOU SON OF A BITCH! YOUR NOT GETTING YOUR MONEY
BACK!"
CLICK

So I decided to tell my story and was met with some flames and some support
on the boards. In the end my goal of being removed from the website so I
had a ground to dispute credit charges with my CC company was acomplished.
I am however disgusted with the forum administrators for posting libelous
untrue information about me after I have left. Ever gone to sears and have
a customer service rep bad talk another customer? Pretty unproffesional.
The posts from people supporting my argument have all been removed, and the
posts of people flaming my argument have all misteriously remained.

What i learned:

1. I am under the belief Southbeachdiet.com has 2 part time nutrionalists.
2. It takes at least 1 week for a question to be answered.
3. When i signed up they were charging 34.95 for sign up and they have
45,000 memebers (customer service provided this figure for me).. 45,000 *
35 = 1.3 million dollars.
4. 7 dollars a month * 45,000 members = 315,000 dollars a month.. adding in
for the fact that each month they get lots of new members paying the 34.95
comes out to about 400,000 a month

400k a month and only 2 part time nutioniusts running the forums?

Conclusion:
Though the southbeach diet appears to be an excellant diet, I had a very
poor experience with utilizing the website. I recommend purchasing the book
if you are interested. Agora Media, who runs the website, has very poor and
very rude customer service. I would not recommend anyone doing business
with them. HOWEVER, if you are only after peer support and don't want to
have to rely on expert support then it may be for you. However, I also
think you can get plenty of peer support right here at alt.support.diet.

Thanks for listening to my story!

Thanks for the heads up. I had not heard of the website, but since I just
started reading the book, I might have at some point. Sorry to hear you had
such a bad experience. The way it unfolded is the kind of thing which
absolutely makes me want to go postal. I hope your credit card company
takes care of it quickly and without problems.

I recommend purchasing the book if you are interested.

I recommend checking it out from the library instead! It's really popular
right now, so one might have to be put on a waiting list, but eventually
it'll come in. And then if it's worth buying, the used book market will
soon be glutted with copies.

Man, nothing ****es me off more than people happily taking my money, while
refusing to provide the service I am paying them for.

Thanks for sharing your story - I just started reading the book as well. My
knee-jerk reaction was "Is southbeachdiet.com run by the guy who wrote it,
or is it someone who just used that URL to run their own little operation?"
and it appears that Dr. Agatston has endorsed the site... ah well.

I'm on my library's waiting list--I'm number 108 on the list! It wasn't so
bad with the last Harry Potter book since they ordered more than 100 copies
of it, but they only have 10 copies of South Beach. There's a 3-week
maximum check-out time so assuming everyone returns their copy on time, I
think I should get a copy in maybe 7 or 8 months, except I'll be gone by
then :-).

You might want to post it to the South Beach Yahoo groups to have the most

Jakey,

Write to your credit card company and explain exactly what happened. When
I've done this with other uncooperative merchants, I've gotten my money
right back. It also gives the company a black mark that makes it imperative
they clean up their act. Too many chargebacks and they lose their ability to
process credit cards.

Document your request to the credit card company with the information you
posted here.

2. It takes at least 1 week for a question to be answered.
3. When i signed up they were charging 34.95 for sign up and they have
45,000 memebers (customer service provided this figure for me).. 45,000 *
35 = 1.3 million dollars.
4. 7 dollars a month * 45,000 members = 315,000 dollars a month.. adding

in
for the fact that each month they get lots of new members paying the 34.95
comes out to about 400,000 a month

400k a month and only 2 part time nutioniusts running the forums?

Conclusion:
Though the southbeach diet appears to be an excellant diet, I had a very
poor experience with utilizing the website. I recommend purchasing the

book
if you are interested. Agora Media, who runs the website, has very poor

and
very rude customer service. I would not recommend anyone doing business
with them. HOWEVER, if you are only after peer support and don't want to
have to rely on expert support then it may be for you. However, I also
think you can get plenty of peer support right here at alt.support.diet.

Thanks for listening to my story!
